Itinerary
Sunrise visit and birdwatching
Arrive before sunrise for cooler temperatures and the best light for photography. Bring binoculars for birdwatching.
Cycle or walk the lakeside paths
Rent a bike locally or bring your own. Paths are largely flat but some sections are gravel—use appropriate tires.
Rest/avoid the heat
Midday can be very hot in summer—plan indoor or shaded activities during this time or postpone until evening.
Sunset picnic and photography
Bring a blanket, water, and snacks. Sunset provides dramatic colors on the desert and lake surfaces.
Stargazing (clear nights)
Low light pollution makes Al Qudra good for stargazing; bring a torch and warm clothing if visiting in cooler months.
Safety Requirements
Carry plenty of water — dehydration risk in desert climate.
Wear sun protection: hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and lightweight long sleeves during the day.
Use closed-toe shoes for walking (sand, gravel and potential desert flora/fauna).
Check vehicle access and parking; many nearby tracks are unpaved—a regular car can reach the designated parking areas, but avoid deep sand without a suitable 4x4.
Drones may be restricted — check UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Dubai local rules and obtain permits if required.
Beware of sudden weather changes (sandstorms) and seek shelter if needed. Mobile signal can be patchy in some spots.
Tips
Arrive early (sunrise) or late (sunset) to avoid heat and crowds and to get the best light for photos.
Bring water, snacks, a basic first-aid kit and waste bags — there are limited/no facilities on site.
Respect wildlife and do not feed animals. Keep the area clean; pack out what you bring in.
If you plan to cycle, use a bike with wider tires for gravel and sand sections and carry a pump/repair kit.
Check local rules before flying a drone; Al Qudra is near controlled airspace and permits are often required.
Combine the visit with nearby Al Qudra Lakes and cycling trails for a fuller half-day experience.
Parking is free in designated areas but can be busy on weekends — arrive early on peak days.
