Safety Requirements
Bring sufficient water and snacks — hydration is essential in tropical heat
Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes with grip; trails can be steep and slippery when wet
Use insect repellent and check for mosquito-prone areas; leeches are uncommon but may occur after heavy rains
Stay on marked trails — avoid off-trail routes to protect habitat and for personal safety
Check weather and avoid hiking during thunderstorms or heavy rain (flash-flooding and slippery trails)
Observe NParks rules: no feeding wildlife, no littering, no cycling on restricted paths
Tips
Start early — 06:30–09:00 for cooler temperatures and better wildlife sighting chances
Carry at least 1 litre of water per person for short hikes; more for longer visits
Combine with Hindhede Nature Park and the nearby quarry for a varied outing
Wear quick-dry clothing and a hat; sun protection is still needed in shaded forests
Download an offline map or take a photo of the trail map at the Visitor Centre
Public transport: several buses and the nearest MRT (Beauty World) are within walking distance — check last-mile walking directions
Respect quiet and wildlife — avoid loud music and keep dogs off reserve trails
