MacRitchie Reservoir TreeTop Walk

MacRitchie Reservoir TreeTop Walk is Singapore’s only free-standing suspension bridge that links two of the highest points in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. The walk offers a unique canopy-level perspective of primary and secondary rainforest, excellent views over MacRitchie Reservoir, and opportunities to spot native wildlife such as monitor lizards, long-tailed macaques, and a variety of birds. The trail combines easy hiking with an elevated suspension bridge experience suited to most visitors comfortable with moderate heights.

Itinerary

  1. Arrive at MacRitchie Reservoir Park / Visitor Centre or the nearest car park; purchase water and use restrooms if needed.

Parking limited on weekends — consider taking a taxi, bus, or MRT + bus.

  2. Begin the hike along the nature trails toward Venus Loop / Rifle Range Link (or the popular TreeTop Walk approach from the Venus Loop direction).

Trail distance to the TreeTop Walk varies by route (approx 2–3 km). Expect uneven surfaces and some steep sections.

  3. Reach the TreeTop Walk, cross the suspension bridge and enjoy canopy views and wildlife spotting.

Important: The bridge may be closed during high winds or heavy rain. Limit time on the bridge if crowded and follow park staff instructions.

  4. Explore nearby loops (e.g., MacRitchie Nature Trail, Upper Thomson area) or return along the same route.

Extend to a 6–10 km circuit if you want a longer hike. Bring snacks and water.

Safety Requirements

  • Wear sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes with good grip.

  • Do not cross the bridge during thunderstorms, heavy rain, or when signs indicate closure.

  • Keep a safe distance from wildlife — do not feed or approach macaques or monitor lizards.

  • Children should be supervised at all times; the walkway has open sides and can be busy.

  • Carry a basic first-aid kit, water, and a charged phone. Mobile reception can be patchy within the reserve.

Tips

  • Arrive early to avoid heat and crowds — parking and paths get busy on weekends and public holidays.

  • Bring at least 1L of water per person for a moderate walk; Singapore’s humidity makes hydration important.

  • Wear insect repellent and sun protection (hat, sunscreen).

  • Avoid bringing large backpacks or valuables onto the bridge; keep belongings secure if the bridge sways.

  • No drones allowed in the reserve — check NParks rules and restrictions.

  • Respect signage and closures — the bridge may close temporarily for maintenance or safety.

  • Good spots for photography: the mid-span of the bridge and the lookout points toward the reservoir.
