Itinerary
Depart Central (or Aberdeen) by ferry to Yung Shue Wan
Ferries run frequently; buy single/return tickets or use an Octopus card. Morning ferries are less crowded.
Explore Yung Shue Wan village
Stroll the pedestrian main street, pick up snacks, sunscreen, or a light breakfast. There's a small playground and shops selling toys and beach gear.
Walk the Family Trail from Yung Shue Wan to Sok Kwu Wan
Trail is mostly well-paved with some steps. Expect about 45–90 minutes depending on pace and stops. Stop at viewpoints and Hung Shing Yeh Beach for a quick break.
Seafood lunch in Sok Kwu Wan
Choose from several waterfront restaurants and order a mix of shared dishes (lobster, crab, fish, clams, vegetable sides). Consider pre-booking at weekends. Many restaurants will cook seafood you choose by weight.
Leisurely return or explore more of Sok Kwu Wan
Relax by the pier, visit small temples or walk other short trails. Ferries back to Central or Aberdeen depart from Sok Kwu Wan—check the timetable.
Return ferry to Hong Kong Island
If you prefer a longer day, extend with beach time, a second scenic walk, or an evening seafood meal before returning.
Safety Requirements
Check the ferry timetable and weather forecast before departing; cancel or delay if typhoon/ heavy rain expected.
Supervise children at beaches and near rocks; no lifeguards at some small beaches — swim only where safe.
Wear comfortable shoes with good grip; some trail sections have steps or uneven surfaces.
Bring sun protection (hat, sunscreen) and enough water to avoid heat exhaustion.
Keep to marked paths — avoid cliff edges and steep, unmarked tracks.
If you have seafood allergies, inform restaurant staff clearly before ordering.
Tips
Start early to avoid midday heat and weekend crowds.
Bring a small first-aid kit, wet wipes and spare clothes for kids.
Reserve a table at popular Sok Kwu Wan restaurants on weekends or public holidays.
Use an Octopus card for ferries and small purchases — still carry some cash for tiny vendors.
Consider combining with a beach stop at Hung Shing Yeh for swimming and sand play.
Pack a lightweight rain jacket in shoulder seasons; weather can change quickly.
If travelling with a stroller, note some steps on sections of the trail — a baby carrier may be easier.
Photographers: bring a wide-angle lens for sea vistas and a zoom for bird/boat shots.
