Praslin National Park,Seychelles
Vallée de Mai (Praslin National Park) is a globally significant remnant of an ancient palm forest and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing for the Seychelles. The park protects the endemic Coco de Mer (Lodoicea maldivica) — the largest seed in the plant kingdom — and preserves rare endemic species of flora and fauna, including the Seychelles black parrot, one of the world's rarest parrots. The site is important both ecologically (unique evolutionary processes and high endemism) and culturally (traditional associations with the coco de mer).

Entry Fees & Permits
Typical opening hours for the Vallée de Mai are roughly 08:00–16:30/17:00, but hours may vary seasonally — verify before visiting. Praslin is reached from Mahé by ferry (fast catamaran ~1–1.5 hours) or by short domestic flight (~15 minutes). The Vallée de Mai is near central Praslin (close to Baie Sainte Anne/Côte d'Or). On site, well-maintained boardwalks make much of the main loop accessible, though some paths are uneven or slightly steep — partial wheelchair access in some areas; contact the reserve for details.
Recommended Duration
2–4 hours on-site is sufficient for the main trails and visitor centre; extend to a half-day if you plan longer walks, birdwatching, or a guided naturalist tour.
Clothing & Gear Tips
Light, breathable clothing; sturdy walking shoes or trainers; insect repellent, sunhat, sunscreen and a light rain jacket. Bring water and a small daypack. A good pair of binoculars and a camera are recommended for birdwatching and photography.
Local Food & Souvenirs
Nearby Praslin villages and Côte d'Or offer Creole restaurants serving fresh seafood, tropical fruits and local dishes (try fish curry, grilled fish and breadfruit). Souvenirs include vanilla products, local honey, spices, handmade crafts and nature-themed items. Note: export and sale of real coco de mer nuts are regulated — buy only legally certified products if available.
