Emerald Pool & Hot Springs

Emerald Pool (Sa Morakot) is a shallow natural freshwater pool with striking turquoise water set inside Thung Teao Forest Natural Park. Khlong Thom Hot Springs (also called the Hot Stream) are nearby geothermal pools where warm mineral-rich water percolates through terraces and mud baths. Together they make a popular half-day to full-day nature visit from Krabi town and Ao Nang — great for swimming, soaking and short jungle walks. (Coordinates given are approximate for the Khlong Thom area.)

Itinerary

  1. Pickup or arrive at parking/visitor center

Buy entrance tickets, check opening hours, use restroom, apply reef-safe sunscreen before the walk.

The trail is well-marked and takes about 15–30 minutes each way depending on pace; stay on the boardwalk to protect the ecosystem.

  3. Swim and relax at the Emerald Pool

Observe signs — swimming may be limited in some areas. Bring a towel and water shoes for slippery edges.

The hot springs are near the road/parking area; there are terraces and small pools where you can soak or try mud baths.

Change clothes, visit small food stalls if available, and return to Krabi/Ao Nang.

Safety Requirements

  • Follow all park rules and signage; some areas may be closed after heavy rain.

  • Do not dive or jump into the pools — they are shallow and have uneven bottoms.

  • Supervise children at all times near water.

  • Wear suitable footwear (water shoes) — boardwalks and rocks can be slippery.

  • Avoid prolonged soaking in very hot pools; people with cardiovascular issues, pregnant visitors or young children should consult a doctor or avoid hot springs.

  • Carry drinking water and protect yourself from sun exposure and insects.

Tips

  • Go early (08:00–10:00) to avoid crowds and hottest midday sun.

  • Bring cash (THB) for entrance fees, parking, snacks and small local vendors — card facilities are limited.

  • Use reef-safe / biodegradable sunscreen and insect repellent to protect the environment.

  • Pack a towel, dry clothes, water shoes, and a plastic bag for wet items.

  • Respect wildlife and do not remove plants or disturb the natural features.

  • Combine with nearby attractions (e.g., Tiger Cave Temple, Krabi town) to make a full-day itinerary.
