Menjangan Island snorkeling/diving

Menjangan Island (Pulau Menjangan) is one of Bali's premier snorkel and dive destinations, located inside West Bali National Park. Famous for its clear water, healthy coral walls, sheltered bays and abundant marine life, it offers excellent visibility, gentle currents and a mix of shallow reefs for snorkelers and dramatic wall dives for certified divers.

Itinerary

  1. Hotel pickup and land transfer to the chosen harbor (Pemuteran, Labuhan Lalang or Gilimanuk).

Early starts are common to catch the calmest seas and best light for visibility.

  2. Boat transfer to Menjangan Island.

Boat time varies by departure point. Short briefing and park permit check on arrival.

  3. First snorkel or dive at a chosen site (e.g., 'The Wall', 'Eel Gardens', 'Batu Belah').

Guided snorkel for groups; for divers, buddy checks and guided dives along walls and reefs.

  4. Lunch on the boat or beach (depending on operator).

Most day trips include a boxed lunch or simple meal; bring water and snacks as needed.

  5. Second snorkel or dive — explore a different site or repeat a favorite.

Afternoon sessions may target shallower reefs for snorkelers or macro sites for photographers.

  6. Return boat transfer to harbor and drop-off at hotel.

Arrival time depends on sea conditions and pick-up route.

Safety Requirements

  • Snorkelers should be comfortable swimming in open water and use a life vest if needed.

  • Divers must hold a current certification (Open Water or equivalent) for guided dives; carry certification card.

  • Minimum number of logged dives may be required for certain deep or wall sites (check operator rules).

  • Be aware of boat safety briefings, local currents and entry/exit points — follow guide instructions.

  • No-touch policy for corals and marine life; avoid standing on reefs.

  • Bring any needed medication (e.g., for seasickness); inform operator of medical conditions.

Tips

  • Book with a reputable operator based in Pemuteran or nearby; small-group trips offer better experience.

  • Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, water bottle, towel, and a dry bag for valuables.

  • If you plan to dive, check included gear quality; bring your own mask/regulator if you prefer.

  • Carry some cash (IDR) for park entrance fees, tips and small purchases — cards may not be accepted.

  • Underwater photographers: bring a spare battery/memory card and anti-fog for housings; consider a short macro lens for critters.

  • Respect West Bali National Park rules — no feeding fish, no collecting coral or shells.

  • Consider overnighting in Pemuteran to reduce transfer time and enjoy multiple dives/snorkels over consecutive days.

  • Check weather/sea forecasts and confirm pickup/drop-off locations and times with your operator the day before.
