Sekumpul Waterfall hike

Sekumpul Waterfall is one of Bali's most spectacular waterfall clusters located in the Singaraja area of Buleleng Regency. The hike takes you through lush tropical jungle, rice terraces and local villages to a viewpoint and then down to the base of towering, multi-stream falls. It's celebrated for dramatic photo opportunities, multiple cascades, and a relatively untouched natural setting.

  • Lush tropical jungle, steep ravines and rice terrace views on the approach

  • Viewpoint lookout above the falls and close access to the waterfall base

Itinerary

  1. Depart from Singaraja / pickup point or from southern Bali (early start recommended).

Travel time from Ubud/Denpasar is 2–3 hours; plan for longer in peak traffic. Leave early to maximize time on the trail.

  2. Arrive at parking/entry point and register/pay local fee.

Hire a local guide if you prefer — guides know the best routes and where river crossings are safer.

  3. Begin descent on the trail through rice terraces and jungle.

Trail includes steep steps, loose earth and occasional narrow paths; take your time and use trekking poles if needed.

  4. Reach the main viewpoint for panoramic photos.

Good spot for wide-angle shots; prepare camera and remove electronics from moisture-sensitive bags if misty.

  5. Descend to the river and cross to reach the waterfall base.

River crossings can be slippery and variable depth — a guide helps choose the safest line.

  6. Explore the waterfall base, swim (if safe) and take photos.

Respect signage and local guidance about where swimming is allowed; currents can be strong.

  7. Return hike to the parking area.

Allow time for a steady climb back up; bring snacks and water to recharge.

  8. Depart back to Singaraja or onward destination.

If traveling from southern Bali, expect a longer transfer—consider stopping at other northern attractions if time permits.

Safety Requirements

  • Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes with good grip — trail can be steep and slippery.

  • Bring sufficient drinking water and energy snacks.

  • Avoid the hike during or immediately after heavy rain due to flash flood and slippery conditions.

  • Non-swimmers should avoid strong currents near the base; use caution when entering water.

  • Consider hiring a local guide for navigation and safer river crossings.

  • Keep electronics and valuables in waterproof or dry bags; mist and spray are common near the falls.

Tips

  • Hire a local guide — they improve safety, speed up route-finding and support the community.

  • Start early to avoid crowds and afternoon showers; sunrise-to-morning is the nicest light for photos.

  • Wear quick-dry clothing and bring a light towel; water shoes or sandals with grip are useful for river crossings.

  • Carry small-denomination cash for entrance fees, guide tips, parking and snacks from locals.

  • Bring a waterproof phone case or dry bag for camera gear and important items.

  • Leave no trace — take your rubbish with you and respect local customs and property.

  • If arriving from southern Bali, combine with nearby attractions (e.g., Munduk or Lovina) to avoid long same-day transfers.
