Safety Requirements
Carry warm, layered clothing — nights are cold even in summer.
Use a local guide or camp operator for route information and emergency support.
Check weather and road conditions before travel; monsoon can cause landslides and roadblocks.
Altitude awareness: Chopta sits around 2,600–3,000 m (varies by campsite); if you have serious altitude concerns consult a doctor.
Follow fire and waste rules — avoid open flames near dry grass and dispose of waste responsibly.
Tips
Book in advance during peak months (Apr–Jun, Sep–Nov) and long weekends.
Carry cash — card/UPI may be unreliable in remote areas.
Bring good trekking shoes, rainproof jacket, warm hat and gloves, sunscreen and sunglasses.
If planning Tungnath/Chandrashila, start early and carry water/snacks; the climb can be steep in sections.
Respect local culture and temple timings (Tungnath is an active pilgrimage site).
Practice Leave No Trace: take back all plastic and non-biodegradable waste.
Inform someone of your plan and expected return time if you go on independent treks.
