Zero Point, Binsar,Uttarakhand
Binsar Zero Point is a panoramic viewpoint within the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary in Kumaon, Uttarakhand. The Binsar sanctuary (established to protect mid-elevation Himalayan forests) is important for conserving broadleaf oak, rhododendron and conifer forests and provides habitat for deer, leopards, Himalayan martens and many bird species. Zero Point itself is valued for offering unobstructed Himalayan vistas — a natural vantage point used by generations of local people and visitors to observe the mountain skyline and seasonal weather patterns.

Mid-elevation mountain climate: cool to mild in summer (10–20°C), cold in winters often dropping below freezing with occasional snow. Weather can change quickly; mornings and evenings are significantly colder than daytime.
Accessibility
Nearest major railhead: Kathgodam (~120 km by road). Nearest airport: Pantnagar Airport (~125–140 km) or Pantnagar (small regional flights); however, most visitors reach via road from Almora (~20–30 km) or Ranikhet (~40 km). Roads are steep, winding mountain roads — a sturdy vehicle or experienced driver is advised. The final approach to some Zero Point trails may require short walks on rough paths; not all sections are vehicle-accessible.
Recommended Duration
1–2 days if visiting Zero Point as part of a Binsar day trip; 2–3 days recommended if you plan to explore multiple trails, birdwatch, and visit nearby Almora/Ranikhet.
Clothing & Gear Tips
Warm layered clothing (including a windproof jacket), good walking shoes or boots, hat and gloves in winter, sunglasses for strong sun/altitude glare, binoculars and a camera for sightings and panoramas. Carry water, snacks and basic first-aid.

Try local Kumaoni dishes such as kafuli, bhatt ki daal, and aloo ke gutke at homestays or local eateries. Souvenirs include handloom woolens, shawls, hand-knitted wool caps, and jars of local honey. Respect local customs when visiting small villages and temples.
