Melasti Beach is a coastal area on the southern Bukit Peninsula near Ungasan, Bali. It is valued for its dramatic limestone cliffs, clear turquoise waters and white sand coves. Culturally, the beach is an important site for Balinese Hindu purification rituals (Melasti ceremony) held before Nyepi, when locals process to the sea to cleanse sacred objects and pray. Accessibility
About 30–60 minutes drive from Ngurah Rai (Denpasar) Airport depending on traffic; reachable by car or motorbike from Uluwatu, Kuta, Seminyak. Final approach requires descending steps from the cliff—not wheelchair accessible and may be difficult for those with mobility issues. Some parking near the cliff top; short but steep walk to beach.
Recommended Duration
1–3 hours: long enough for a cliff walk, photos, a short swim and a snack. Combine with nearby attractions (Uluwatu Temple, Padang Padang, Suluban) for a half-day itinerary.
