Sekumpul Waterfall,Bali

Sekumpul Waterfall is one of Bali's most spectacular natural attractions, celebrated for its dramatic multi-stream falls set in lush tropical jungle in northern Bali. It highlights the island's rich natural heritage—steep cliffs, dense rainforest, and freshwater ecosystems—and draws nature lovers, photographers, and hikers. The waterfall contributes to local livelihoods through eco-tourism and supports surrounding agriculture by providing freshwater.

Places to visit

  • The main Sekumpul cascade: a tall, powerful waterfall (several streams falling side-by-side)
  • Nearby smaller falls and viewpoints offering varied perspectives
  • Lush jungle setting with dramatic cliffs and verdant rice terraces on the approach
  • Natural pools at the base suitable for cautious swimming and cooling off

Unique Aspects

  • Multiple closely grouped cascades that create a striking curtain of water
  • Misty spray and rainbows on sunny days — a photographer's favorite
  • A relatively remote, untouched-feeling environment compared with south Bali tourist spots
  • A scenic, sometimes challenging trek to reach viewpoints, including stream crossings and carved stone steps

Things to do

  • Hiking through rice terraces, jungle trails, and steps to viewpoints
  • Swimming in the natural pool beneath the falls (exercise caution: currents and rocks)
  • Photography — wide-angle views, portrait shots in mist, and macro flora/fauna photography
  • Birdwatching and enjoying tropical plants along the trail
  • Combining a visit with nearby Munduk, Gitgit, and lemukih waterfall tours

Best Time to Visit

Dry season (April–October) for easier trekking, clearer skies, and safer footing; early morning visits help avoid crowds and capture softer light for photos. The waterfall is impressive year-round and can be especially powerful after rain (wet season November–March) but trails may be muddy and slippery.

Weather Conditions

Tropical climate—warm and humid. Northern Bali is slightly cooler than the south. Expect morning mist near the falls and the possibility of sudden showers in the wet season.

Accessibility

Sekumpul is in northern Bali (Buleleng regency area). Nearest major town is Singaraja; the drive from central-south Bali (Denpasar/ Ubud areas) takes roughly 2.5–3.5 hours depending on traffic. The nearest major airport is Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar) about 2–3 hours+ by road. Reaching the falls requires a moderately strenuous hike involving stone steps, steep sections, river crossings, and uneven terrain; a local guide is recommended for safety and navigation. Not suitable for wheelchairs or those with limited mobility.

Recommended Duration

Half-day (3–4 hours) if visiting directly from nearby towns; full day if combining with Munduk or other northern-Bali sights. Allow time for the drive, the walk to viewpoints, and returns.

Clothing & Gear Tips

Sturdy, closed-toe shoes or good trail sandals, quick-dry clothing, a light rain jacket (wet season), swimwear and a towel if you plan to swim, insect repellent, sun protection (hat/sunscreen), and a small waterproof bag for valuables.

Local Food & Souvenirs

Small village warungs near the trailhead may offer local snacks, nasi campur, coffee, and cold drinks. Souvenirs include locally woven crafts, coffee beans from nearby plantations, and simple handmade goods sold by villagers. Carry cash for purchases.
