April to October is the prime swell season (Southwest monsoon) for consistent surf at Sultans. March and November can offer good, more variable swells. December–February (Northeast monsoon) tends to be calmer — better for travel, snorkeling and beginners at other protected breaks.

Tropical maritime climate: warm year-round (water and air 26–31°C). SW monsoon (May–Oct) brings larger swells, more clouds and short heavy showers; NE monsoon (Dec–Mar) is usually drier and calmer. Light offshore winds early in the day often provide the best conditions.

There is no formal entrance fee to the surf spot itself. Access is typically via surf charter, speedboat transfer or resort day trip which have their own costs. Surf breaks have no operating hours — paddle and surf during daylight only. Tide windows matter: many operators prefer mid to high tide; local guides will advise exact timing. Respect any local boat lanes and protected reef rules.

Nearest international gateway: Velana International Airport (MLE) on Hulhulé Island. From Malé/Velana, reach Thulusdhoo / surf area by 30–60 minute speedboat transfer or by joining a multi-day surf charter or liveaboard. Many surf operators and guesthouses in Thulusdhoo and Malé run daily or multi-day transfers to the spot.

Plan 3–7 days to get multiple quality sessions and allow for variable swell windows; a week is ideal for maximizing chances of good surf and some island exploration.

High-performance shortboard or a quiver suited to fast reef waves (boards around 5'6–6'2 typical depending on rider). Bring a sturdy leash, rashguard (or 1–2mm spring suit in windy/cooler months if desired), reef booties if you’re nervous about the bottom, reef-safe sunscreen, and a basic first-aid kit. Pack spare fin keys and wax.

Try local Maldivian dishes in Thulusdhoo and Malé such as mas huni (tuna/coconut breakfast), garudhiya (fish broth), and fresh tuna preparations. Cafés (hotaa) and small eateries serve affordable local meals. Souvenirs include lacquerware, sarongs, woven mats and small handicrafts made on local islands. Respect local customs when visiting island communities and dress modestly away from resort beaches.
