Thoondu Beach,Maldives
Thoondu Beach is a uniquely significant natural site on Fuvahmulah island in the Maldives, renowned for its unusual white coral-pebble shore. Unlike typical Maldivian powdery sand beaches, Thoondu's surface is composed of smooth, round white granules formed from broken coral and shell fragments — a rare geological occurrence in the country. The beach plays an important role in the island's cultural identity and is a favored communal spot for locals.

Tropical maritime climate. Typical temperatures range from 26–31°C (79–88°F) year-round with high humidity. Brief tropical showers possible, especially during the monsoon.
Accessibility
Travelers usually fly to Velana International Airport (MLE, Malé) then take a domestic flight to Fuvahmulah Airport (FVM). Domestic flights take about 45–60 minutes. From Fuvahmulah Airport it's a short taxi ride to Thoondu Beach (island travel times vary but typically under 20–30 minutes). There is limited public transport; taxis or island buses and walking are common. Resorts in the Maldives may not provide direct transfers to local islands — plan domestic connections in advance.
Recommended Duration
For a focused visit to Thoondu: half a day to one day. To explore Fuvahmulah's lakes, culture and marine activities: 2–4 days.
Clothing & Gear Tips
Bring swimwear for the beach, plus a light cover-up or modest clothing for village areas. Water shoes or reef shoes are recommended because the pebble surface can be coarse. Also bring reef-safe sunscreen, a sunhat, sunglasses, a light rain jacket (for occasional showers), and insect repellent for mangrove/wetland areas.
Local Food & Souvenirs
Try local Maldivian dishes such as mas huni and garudhiya, and fresh grilled fish. Popular local souvenirs include dried/smoked fish, coconut-based products, woven handicrafts, and small island-made crafts — buy from local shops to support the community.
