Safety Requirements
Acclimatization: Gosaikunda reaches altitudes above 4,000 m — allow time to acclimatize to reduce risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).
Permits: Langtang National Park entry permit and TIMS card are required; carry ID (passport) and permit receipts.
Weather & clothing: Be prepared for sudden weather changes; carry warm layers, waterproof shell, and insulated sleeping gear.
Guides & porters: Consider hiring a licensed guide and porter for navigation and load relief, especially if unfamiliar with Himalayan terrain.
Emergency evacuation: Mobile/air evacuation can be limited; ensure you have contingency plans, travel insurance covering high-altitude rescue and helicopter evacuation.
Tips
Book in peak season (Sept–Nov, Mar–May) well in advance to secure teahouse rooms and guides.
Carry cash in smaller Nepali rupees—the trail towns have limited or no ATM facilities.
Acclimatize gradually: do not rush ascents above 3,000–3,500 m; drink plenty of water and eat well.
Respect local customs: Gosaikunda is a sacred site—dress modestly, ask before taking photos of religious ceremonies or people.
Footwear & gear: broken-in trekking boots, sleeping liner, warm hat/gloves, trekking poles and a basic first-aid kit are strongly recommended.
Check park and permit fees, route conditions and recent trail reports with a local operator before departure.
