Nepal has two optimal visiting seasons: October–November and March–April. October–November features clear skies, excellent mountain visibility, and festivals including Dashain and Tihar. March–April offers moderate temperatures and blooming rhododendrons with smaller crowds. Winter months (December–February) bring snow to higher elevations and reduced accommodation prices, though temperatures drop significantly. The monsoon season (June–September) produces heavy rainfall, potential landslides, and trail leeches, though vegetation becomes lush. December–February provides snow experiences at locations like Kalinchowk and Upper Mustang. Trekking conditions are best during spring and autumn months, while winter delivers clear mountain views despite cold temperatures.

Indian citizens can reach Nepal by air, road, or rail. Direct flights operate from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Varanasi, and Bengaluru to Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu), Gautam Buddha Airport (Bhairahawa), and Pokhara International Airport. Major road border crossings include Sunauli–Bhairahawa for Lumbini and Pokhara, Raxaul–Birgunj for the fastest route to Kathmandu, Panitanki–Kakarbhitta for eastern Nepal, and Banbasa–Mahendranagar for far-western regions. Highways connect all border points to major cities. Rail options include the Jayanagar–Janakpur–Kurtha line or taking Indian Railways to border towns like Gorakhpur and Raxaul, then crossing by road. Monsoon season may cause road delays due to landslides.

Indian citizens do not need a visa to visit Nepal. Valid identification required includes an Indian passport or Voter ID with photograph. Aadhaar cards are not accepted for air travel. Children must carry valid photo identification as required by airlines and immigration authorities. Indian citizens can stay in Nepal for extended periods under this visa-free arrangement. Work or study activities require additional permits beyond tourist entry. Entry requirements can change, so verify current policies with Nepalese immigration authorities or your airline before departure. Air travelers should confirm acceptable identification documents with their carrier prior to travel.

Nepal's transportation options include metered taxis and ride-hailing apps Pathao and Tootle in Kathmandu and Pokhara. City buses and microbuses provide the cheapest local transport, with Sajha Yatayat operating major routes in Kathmandu Valley. Tourist buses and private cars connect cities like Pokhara, Chitwan, and Lumbini. Domestic flights serve Pokhara, Bharatpur (Chitwan), Lukla, and other destinations. Motorbikes and bicycles are available for short distances in Pokhara and Thamel. Jeeps and local buses reach remote mountain areas, though roads become difficult during monsoon season from June to September.

Nepal offers accommodation across all budget ranges. In Kathmandu, Thamel district has guesthouses, hostels, and mid-range hotels for budget travelers and trekkers. Durbarmarg and Lazimpat feature upscale properties. Pokhara's Lakeside area provides lake views and restaurant access. Luxury hotels include Dwarika's Hotel and Hyatt Regency in Kathmandu, plus Temple Tree Resort and Fish Tail Lodge in Pokhara. Chitwan National Park has jungle lodges like Meghauli Serai and Barahi Jungle Lodge. Hill stations such as Nagarkot and Bandipur offer mountain view resorts. Budget accommodations start at $5–15 per night, mid-range hotels cost $25–60, and luxury resorts range from $100–300+ nightly.

Nepal's major attractions include seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu Valley: Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath, and the Durbar Squares of Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur. Pokhara features Phewa Lake, World Peace Pagoda, and Sarangkot viewpoint. Chitwan National Park offers wildlife safaris to see one-horned rhinos and Bengal tigers. Lumbini, Buddha's birthplace, contains the Maya Devi Temple and international monasteries. Popular trekking destinations include the Everest region (accessed via Lukla flights) and Annapurna region for Poon Hill and Annapurna Base Camp routes. Nagarkot and Dhulikhel provide Himalayan mountain views within 32km of Kathmandu. Adventure activities include Everest scenic flights, paragliding in Pokhara, and white-water rafting on the Trishuli and Bhote Koshi rivers.

Dal Bhat is Nepal's staple dish consisting of lentils, rice, vegetable curries, and pickles with unlimited refills. Momos are steamed dumplings filled with vegetables, chicken, or buffalo, served with spicy chutney. Thukpa and thenthuk are Tibetan-style noodle soups. Newari cuisine includes bara (lentil pancakes), choila (spiced meat), chatamari (rice crepe pizza), and yomari (sweet dumplings). Other dishes include sel roti (rice doughnuts), gundruk (fermented greens), aloo tama (bamboo shoot curry), and sekuwa (grilled meat). Common drinks are masala chai, tongba (fermented millet), and raksi (local alcohol). Recommended restaurants include Bhojan Griha and Thamel House in Kathmandu, plus Moondance and Rosemary Kitchen in Pokhara.
