For rail travel, Jammu Tawi is the nearest railway station, located 290 kilometers from Srinagar. From Jammu, buses and taxis cover the distance to Srinagar in 8–10 hours via National Highway 44. State-run and private buses operate daily services from Delhi, Chandigarh, and other cities. The Delhi–Srinagar bus journey takes approximately 12–14 hours. Taxi services are available from Jammu railway station, with fares typically ranging from ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 for the Jammu–Srinagar route.

Kashmir's security situation has stabilized significantly since 2019, with tourist arrivals reaching pre-2019 levels. The Indian government maintains heavy security presence in major tourist areas including Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam. Most violence occurs in remote border areas away from tourist circuits. The State Department currently has a Level 2 travel advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, advising increased caution. Internet shutdowns occasionally occur during periods of unrest. Tourist police operate at major attractions and hotels. Visitors should register with local authorities upon arrival, avoid political gatherings, and monitor current conditions through official channels before traveling.

Kashmir has two optimal tourist seasons: spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Spring temperatures range from 15–30°C with blooming tulips, cherry blossoms, and apple orchards. The famous Tulip Garden opens in April. Autumn brings temperatures of 10–25°C with golden chinar trees and clear mountain views. Summer (June to August) reaches 25–35°C in valleys, making it suitable for high-altitude trekking in areas like Gulmarg and Pahalgam. Winter (December to February) brings heavy snowfall and temperatures below freezing, closing many roads but enabling skiing at Gulmarg.
