Best Time to Visit
June to early September — summer months when snow has melted, trails are mostly clear, and meadows are in bloom. Late September onwards can see early snowfall.
Weather Conditions
Alpine weather: warm days (10–20°C) in summer, cold nights often dropping near or below freezing. Snow may persist into June at higher passes. Weather can change quickly — expect wind, rain, and sudden temperature drops.
Accessibility
Tarsar is accessible only by foot via multi-day treks. Common starting points: Aru (Pahalgam) or Lidderwat; alternative routes start from Sonamarg/Bangus or Tral depending on chosen circuit. Nearest major transport hubs: Srinagar (SXR) airport ~95–110 km by road to Pahalgam, then 1–2 days trek to the lake. Trails involve stream crossings, alpine passes, and shepherd tracks; suitable for fit trekkers.
Recommended Duration
3–6 days for a typical return trek from Aru/Lidderwat to Tarsar (longer if combining with Marsar or taking circuit routes). Allow extra time for acclimatisation.
