Winter (December–February) for snow sports; Late spring to early autumn (April–June, July–September) for meadows, wildflowers, and mild weather. Avoid heavy monsoon periods (late summer) if concerned about road closures.

Winters: very cold with heavy snowfall (temperatures often below freezing). Summers: cool and pleasant (approximately 5–20°C depending on altitude). Weather can change quickly in the mountains; expect chilly nights even in summer.

Gulmarg is about 56 km (approx 1.5–2.5 hours by road) from Srinagar and Srinagar International Airport is the nearest airport. Roads are the primary access (private car, taxis, or shared cabs). Winter road closures or delays can occur due to snow—carry chains or winter-ready transport. No special permit for Indian tourists usually; foreigners should carry passports and check local travel advisories. Facilities vary from basic guesthouses to higher-end hotels; some high-altitude areas require trekking or specialized transport.

2–4 days to experience both the meadow/gondola and some skiing or local excursions. Longer stays (5–7 days) if you plan hikes or multi-day treks.

Warm layered clothing (thermal base layers, insulating mid-layers, waterproof outer shell), sturdy hiking boots, gloves, warm hat, sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, and for winter sports—appropriate ski/snowboard gear (rentals available). Carry a small first-aid kit and medication for altitude-related discomfort if prone.

Try Kashmiri specialties such as Rogan Josh, Yakhni, Kahwa (saffron tea), and local breads/sweets. Souvenirs include Pashmina shawls, walnut-wood handicrafts, dry fruits (almonds, walnuts), and Kashmiri carpets and embroidered items.
