Apharwat Peak,Kashmir

Best Time to Visit
Winter (December–March) for reliable snow and skiing; late spring to early autumn (April–June and September–October) for clear weather, trekking and alpine meadows. Monsoon months (July–August) can be wet, foggy and less reliable for vistas.
Weather Conditions
Alpine mountain climate: very cold in winter (often well below freezing), with heavy snowfall and strong winds at times. Summers are cool to chilly at higher elevations with large diurnal temperature ranges. High UV exposure—sun can be strong even when temperatures are low.
Accessibility
Nearest major airport: Srinagar International Airport (SXR), about 50–70 km by road to Gulmarg (approx. 1.5–2.5 hours depending on road and traffic). Regular road access connects Gulmarg to Srinagar by paved roads; taxis and shared transport are common. The Gondola provides the easiest access to high slopes; after disembarkation, some areas require walking, skiing ability or a guide. In winter, mountain roads may require chains or 4x4 vehicles and can be affected by heavy snow.
Recommended Duration
Day trip possible from Srinagar (full day) for gondola and short visits; allocate 2–4 days if you plan to ski, take lessons, do backcountry guided runs or explore the Gulmarg area at a comfortable pace.
Clothing & Gear Tips
Warm layered clothing (base layers, insulated mid‑layer, windproof/waterproof shell), thermal gloves, warm hat, sunglasses or ski goggles with UV protection, sunscreen, sturdy boots (for summer hikes) or ski boots (for winter). If planning high‑altitude activities, carry a small first‑aid kit, water, and a daypack. Rent heavy ski equipment locally if you do not bring your own.
Local Food & Souvenirs
Try Kashmiri dishes such as Rogan Josh, Gushtaba, local breads and Kehwa (traditional green tea). Souvenirs from nearby markets: Pashmina shawls, saffron (from Kashmir valley), papier‑mâché handicrafts, walnut woodwork and traditional jewelry. Buy from reputable shops to ensure authenticity.
