Lachen is accessible by road from Gangtok (long mountain drive). Nearest major transport hubs: Bagdogra Airport (Silchar region) / New Jalpaiguri (Siliguri) railway station, then road transfer to Gangtok and onwards to Lachen. Roads are mountainous and can be rough—travel times are long and depend on weather. Seasonal closures can occur. Advance bookings for permits and local transport are recommended.
