Zero Point (Yumesamdong),Sikkim
Zero Point (Yumesamdong) — locally called Yumesamdong — is a high-altitude meadow and snowbound area in North Sikkim near the India-China border. Its importance is primarily natural: it represents one of the last accessible zones of alpine meadows, perennial snowfields and high-altitude flora and fauna in Sikkim. The area serves as an endpoint for many visitors coming from Lachung and Yumthang Valley and is valued for its pristine landscapes, panoramic Himalayan vistas, and unique high-altitude ecosystems.

Entry Fees & Permits
Access is regulated: travelers must obtain permits (see accessibility). There is no fixed daily opening time for the natural site, but most day trips start early morning from Lachung and return by late afternoon. Nominal permit fees and vehicle charges may apply; costs vary and are administered through local authorities and permitted taxi operators.
Accessibility
Nearest airport: Bagdogra (IXB) — road transfer to Gangtok (approx 4–6 hours) then onward to North Sikkim by road. Nearest major railhead: New Jalpaiguri (NJP). Road access: access to Zero Point is via Lachung and Yumthang; the last stretch often requires high-clearance vehicles/4WD and is seasonal. Permits: North Sikkim (including Yumthang and Zero Point) requires permits — foreign nationals require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) and Indian nationals must obtain the necessary Sikkim travel permits/inner-line permissions. Permits are issued by Sikkim Tourism offices or local travel agents and are checked at police checkpoints along the route. Note: access beyond certain points may be restricted for safety or strategic reasons; always confirm permit requirements and road status before travel.
Recommended Duration
If based in Lachung/Yumthang: allow a full day trip to Zero Point. From Gangtok or for a relaxed visit, allocate 2–3 days in North Sikkim (including travel time and acclimatization).
