Paragliding over Ölüdeniz Blue Lagoon

Experience one of the world’s most famous paragliding sites: a tandem flight from Mt. Babadag down to the crystalline Ölüdeniz Blue Lagoon near Fethiye. You'll fly with a certified pilot, soaring over pine-covered slopes, steep cliffs and the iconic turquoise lagoon and sandy beach below. Suitable for first-timers and adrenaline seekers, the flight combines spectacular panoramic views with a smooth, sustained glide using thermal lifts.

Location

Mt. Babadag (takeoff) — Ölüdeniz Blue Lagoon (landing), Fethiye, Turkey

Duration

Total experience 2–4 hours (including pickup, transfer to takeoff, briefing, gearing up and return). Actual flight time: typically 15–30 minutes depending on conditions.

Best Time to Visit

April to October for the most stable thermals and milder weather; late spring and early autumn often give the best combination of warm sea, clear skies and fewer crowds. Morning flights (early) are calmer; late afternoon can be spectacular for light but more thermal activity may occur.

Pricing

Typical price range: €80–€160 per person (season and operator dependent). Price usually includes: pilot, tandem harness, helmet, insurance. Extras often charged separately: hotel transfer (~€5–€20), HD photo/video package (€20–€50), landing tax or local fees (small). Group discounts may apply; book online in advance for best rates.

Itinerary

  1. Hotel pickup and transfer to Paragliding Base

Pickup time varies by location; allow flexible time for transfers. Operators usually collect hotel addresses the day before.

  2. Short safety briefing and equipment fitting

Briefing covers takeoff/landing positions, pilot commands and emergency procedures. Sign waiver and get harness/helmet fitted.

  3. Transfer (4x4 or minivan) to Mt. Babadag takeoff site

Scenic drive uphill; on some packages a chairlift or shuttle is used. Weather checks performed at the top.

  4. Tandem takeoff and flight

Actual airborne time usually 15–30 minutes depending on thermals. Enjoy sweeping views — pilot will handle controls; relax and enjoy the ride.

  5. Landing on Ölüdeniz beach and photo time

Soft run/slide beach landing. Many operators offer optional photos/video taken from the air or filmed by a second pilot.

  6. Return transfer to hotels or local drop-off

Some operators provide a leisurely return; others may include a brief debrief and certificate of flight.

Safety Requirements

  • Minimum age often 6–8 years (varies by operator); minors may require parental consent

  • Typical weight limits: ~40 kg to 100–110 kg (operator-dependent). Very lightweight or overweight participants may be declined for safety reasons.

  • Pregnancy, recent surgeries, severe back/neck problems, serious cardiovascular or respiratory conditions are usually contraindications

  • Follow pilot instructions at all times — during takeoff, flight and landing

  • Operators must carry valid public liability insurance; confirm pilot certification (UIAA/FAI credentials or local licenses)

  • Flights are weather-dependent — cancellations for safety (strong winds, rain, low visibility) are common; always have flexible scheduling

Tips

  • Book in advance during high season (July–August) — flights sell out quickly.

  • Wear comfortable, layered clothing and closed-toe shoes with good grip (sneakers/hiking shoes). Avoid skirts or flip-flops.

  • Sunglasses and sunscreen are essential — the glare off the sea is strong.

  • Bring earphones/phone for music if operator allows; secure loose items or leave them at base.

  • Ask whether photos/videos are included — compare prices and formats before the flight.

  • If you get motion sickness easily, consider medication ahead of time; stay hydrated but avoid heavy meals right before flight.

  • Confirm weight limits and bring ID and any required waivers; check cancellation and refund policy.

  • Choose operators with good reviews, certified pilots and clear insurance coverage — safety and experience matter more than the lowest price.
