Pamukkale ("Cotton Castle") is a unique natural site in Denizli Province, southwestern Turkey, known for its white travertine terraces formed by calcium-rich thermal waters. The terraces and hot springs have been used as a spa since the Roman and Byzantine periods and are linked to the ancient Greco-Roman city of Hierapolis, whose ruins sit above the terraces. Best Time to Visit

Nearest airport: Denizli Çardak Airport (about 60 km) with shuttle, taxi, and bus connections to Denizli city; from Denizli, a 20–30 minute drive to Pamukkale. Regular minibuses and tours from Denizli. Car parks available near the site; site requires walking on uneven paths and many steps—parts may be challenging for mobility-impaired visitors. To protect terraces, visitors must remove shoes in designated areas and use boardwalks in some sections.
Recommended Duration
Plan 3–5 hours to visit both the terraces and Hierapolis museum and ruins; allow a full day if including Cleopatra’s Pool and a relaxed spa session.
