The bay itself is open year-round and has no single entry gate; most visitors arrive via organized cruises. Cruise prices usually include boat permits and basic activities. Cat Ba National Park charges a small entrance fee (nominal, typically a few USD) and some protected areas or caves may have modest extra charges. Most visitors reach Lan Ha Bay via Cat Ba Island. Typical routes: drive or bus from Hanoi to Hai Phong (2–3 hours) then ferry/speedboat to Cat Ba (45–60 minutes); alternative direct shuttle+boat services from Hanoi to Cat Ba are available. Nearest airports: Cat Bi (Hai Phong) and Noi Bai (Hanoi). Many cruises depart from Cat Ba's wharves; private boats or day tours also launch from nearby ports.

2–3 days minimum to experience Lan Ha Bay properly — a day trip offers highlights, but an overnight cruise or a 2-night stay allows kayaking, evening calm, and visiting remote coves.
