Tram Chim National Park,Vietnam

Tram Chim National Park is one of the most important wetland reserves in Vietnam's Mekong Delta. It protects seasonally flooded grasslands and wetland habitats that support a rich diversity of waterbirds, freshwater fish and wetland plants. The park is a key site for the globally significant Eastern sarus crane population and is considered an important example of successful wetland conservation in Vietnam. It also provides ecosystem services to local communities through fisheries, flood control and reed/grass resources.

  • Sarus crane (Grus antigone) and other waterbird colonies
  • Seasonal flooded grasslands and reed beds
  • Boat-channel cruises through the wetland mosaic

Best Time to Visit

Weather Conditions

Tropical monsoon climate: hot and humid year-round. Rainy season roughly May–November with heavy showers and higher water levels; dry season December–April with lower water and cooler mornings.

Entry Fees & Permits

Moderate entrance fee and additional charges for guided boat tours or hired guides may apply (fees vary and are subject to change). Typical visiting hours are roughly 07:00–17:00, but boat tours and sunrise birdwatching may start earlier with guides.

Accessibility

Tram Chim National Park is in Tam Nong District, Dong Thap Province. Nearest major city/transport hubs: Can Tho (by road, around 60–90 km depending on route) and Ho Chi Minh City (~150–180 km). Reachable by road via bus or private car; local taxis, motorbike taxis and hired boats are commonly used for last-mile access. Note that internal movement inside the park is mainly by boat and on raised tracks—some areas are seasonally inaccessible on foot.

Recommended Duration

1–2 days to enjoy boat tours, birdwatching at dawn/dusk and a relaxed visit to the visitor center; longer stays (2–3 days) for deeper birding or photography trips.

Clothing & Gear Tips

Bring binoculars and a camera with a telephoto lens for birdwatching, lightweight breathable clothing, a hat and sunscreen, insect repellent, waterproof jacket or poncho for the rainy season, and comfortable waterproof shoes or sandals. Consider bringing a small field guide or using an app for bird ID.
