visa & passport guide

Everything Indian passport holders need to visit Bali — visa type, fees, processing time, documents, and the step-by-step application process.

Bali Visa for Indian Passport Holders

Bali is part of Indonesia, and Indian passport holders get Visa on Arrival (VoA) at Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar. The VoA costs IDR 500,000 (roughly ₹2,700) and allows a stay of 30 days, extendable once by another 30 days. You can also apply online in advance for the e-VoA through Indonesia's official immigration portal to skip the payment counter queue. Indonesia's earlier visa-free entry for Indians is no longer in effect, so budget for the VoA fee.

  3. 3Fill the All Indonesia electronic customs declaration (e-CD) within 3 days of arrival and save the QR code
  4. 4On landing at Denpasar, pay the VoA at the counter if you have not done e-VoA, then join the immigration queue (e-VoA holders can use autogates)

  6. 6For a 30-day extension, apply at the local immigration office in Denpasar or through an agent before your 30 days expire

Good to Know

  • Immigration in Bali does check onward tickets. A one-way ticket can get you offloaded at the Indian airport itself, so keep a confirmed return booking.
  • The VoA is a single-entry permit. If you plan to hop to Singapore or Malaysia and return to Bali, you will pay the VoA fee again.
  • From 14 February 2024, all foreign tourists pay a Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000 (about ₹800) per person. Pay it online at lovebali.baliprov.go.id before arrival and keep the voucher.
  • Carry some cash. Airport VoA counters accept major cards but network outages are common, and USD or IDR notes work as backup.
  • Overstaying attracts a fine of IDR 1 million per day, so track your 30 days from the stamp date, not your flight date.
  • Best months are April to October (dry season, 27-31°C). December to February brings heavy rain and higher humidity.
  • Bali's Nyepi (Day of Silence, usually March) shuts the airport for 24 hours and confines everyone indoors. Check the date before booking.
  • VoA is for tourism only. Any paid work, including remote work for an Indian employer on client-facing Indonesian projects, needs a different permit.

Visa rules and fees change — verify with the official embassy or immigration website before booking travel.
