Eravikulam National Park,Kerala
Eravikulam National Park is one of India's premier high-altitude protected areas, protecting the montane grassland and shola forest ecosystems of the Western Ghats. It is internationally important for biodiversity conservation as the stronghold of the endemic and endangered Nilgiri tahr (Nilgiritragus hylocrius), and for preserving rare high-altitude flora and fauna. The park also plays a critical role in watershed protection for the region and supports local livelihoods through ecotourism.

Best Time to Visit
December to May for the clearest weather and wildlife visibility. For the spectacular Neelakurinji bloom, visit during the bloom year (last widely recorded bloom was in 2018; the next expected cycle is around 2030). Monsoon months (June–September) bring heavy rain and restricted access.
Weather Conditions
Mountain climate: cool to mild days and chilly nights. Typical daytime temperatures range roughly from 10°C to 25°C depending on season and altitude; fog and sudden showers are common during the monsoon and shoulder seasons.
Entry Fees & Permits
The park operates regulated, timed entry with a capped number of visitors per day to protect sensitive habitats. Tickets and guided-entry rules vary seasonally; some areas are accessible only with park guides or on specific trails. Check the official park/Forest Department website or the Munnar tourist information centre for current fees, opening hours and booking procedures.

Eravikulam National Park is accessed from the Rajamalai entrance near Munnar (the park is approximately 15–20 km from Munnar town). The nearest major airport is Cochin International Airport (COK) — roughly 120–140 km by road depending on route; the nearest major railhead is Aluva/Kochi region followed by road transfer. Public transport to the park is limited; the most convenient way is by car or taxi from Munnar. Note: internal trails are often uneven and not suitable for wheelchairs; ensure mobility needs are planned in advance.
