Itinerary

  1. Boarding at one of the main ghats (Gangaur Ghat, Ambrai Ghat, or near City Palace). Tickets checked; life jackets provided if required.

Arrive 15–20 minutes early if you’ve booked. For private boats, confirm pickup location with operator.

  2. Cruise across the lake toward the central islands. Scenic views of City Palace and local ghats; the skipper may pause for photos.

Sit on the side facing the western skyline for the best sunset photos.

  3. Circle or approach Lake Palace and Jagmandir (depending on permissions). Enjoy the sunset glow on palace walls and the Aravalli ridges.

Private boats can get closer to islands; shared boats follow fixed routes.

  4. Return to the boarding ghat; disembark. Option to stroll along the ghats or visit nearby cafés/terrace restaurants to continue the sunset experience.

If you want to stay ashore for evening activities, inform your operator or head to a nearby ghat.

Safety Requirements

  • Wear a life jacket on request — insist if not offered for private boats

  • Follow skipper’s instructions when boarding and moving around the boat

  • Keep belongings secured to prevent loss overboard

  • Avoid leaning over the edge or standing in small boats during movement

  • Children should be supervised at all times

Tips

  • Book in advance during peak season (Oct–Mar) and major festivals

  • For the best sunset photos sit on the western-facing side of the boat—Ambrai Ghat departures are popular

  • Negotiate price for private boats before boarding and confirm any extras (refreshments, extra stops)

  • Carry a light shawl or jacket — lakeside evenings can be breezy

  • Bring a small LED light or torch for walking at night after disembarkation

  • If you prefer quieter rides, choose weekday evenings or early shoulder-season dates

  • If you want commentary, hire a boat with a guide or ask the boatman for local stories

  • Respect local customs — avoid loud music or excessive drinking on shared boats
