Itinerary
Arrival in Shimla & Orientation
Arrival & Welcome: Arrive at Shimla (by road/rail/air transfer as per arrival). Meet your driver and transfer to the hotel. Enjoy a relaxed evening walk along the Mall Road to acclimatize and witness colonial-era architecture.
Important: Ensure you rest well — the next days involve long mountain drives. Hotel check-in and a short briefing about the Spiti route with your driver guide.
Shimla to Sangla (Baspa Valley) — Scenic Drive into Kinnaur
Drive from Shimla to Sangla through breathtaking apple orchards, terraced fields and riverside hamlets. En route visit small mountain towns, local markets and scenic viewpoints. Evening at leisure in Sangla — enjoy views of the Baspa River and surrounding peaks.
Tip: Carry warm layers for the evening and keep cameras ready for valley vistas.
Sangla to Kalpa — Traditional Villages & Panoramic Views
After breakfast, explore nearby villages like Chitkul (seasonal) or stroll through Sangla. Continue to Kalpa, the heart of the Kinnaur range with spectacular views of Kinnaur Kailash. Visit local apple orchards and the charming stone houses in Kalpa village.
Note: Roads narrow in places; expect picturesque but winding drives.
Kalpa to Tabo via Nako — Entering Spiti Valley
Depart Kalpa early for the long drive into Spiti. Cross high passes and contrast-rich landscapes to reach Nako and then Tabo. On arrival in Tabo, check in and visit the UNESCO-heritage-like Tabo Monastery, known for its ancient wall paintings and stuccos — a highlight of this Himachal Adventure package.
Important: Carry necessary permit documents and maintain hydration at altitude.
Explore Tabo and Dhankar — Monastic Traditions
Spend the morning exploring Tabo Monastery in depth with a local guide, learning about its 1000-year-old murals. Later drive up to Dhankar Monastery (perched dramatically on a cliff) and visit Dhankar Lake and the nearby old fortress-cum-village.
Highlight: Spectacular cliff-top panoramas and immersive monastic culture make this a cornerstone of the Spiti Monastic Heritage experience.
Kaza Local: Key Monastery, Kibber, Langza, Hikkim & Komic
Transfer to Kaza, the administrative hub of Spiti. Full-day exploration of the nearby high-altitude villages: visit Key Monastery (an architectural and spiritual landmark), then head to Kibber for wildlife spotting, Langza for fossils and panoramic photo ops, and the tiny hamlets of Hikkim (home to one of the world's highest post offices) and Komic.
Tip: Carry cash for remote purchases and respect local customs when visiting monasteries.
Pin Valley Excursion or Kunzum La & Chandratal (seasonal)
Choose a full-day excursion: either explore Pin Valley National Park (known for ibex, snow leopards in the higher zones and unique trans-Himalayan flora) or, season permitting, drive via Kunzum La to Chandratal — one of Himachal's most iconic high-altitude lakes (requires additional entry/permits). Return to Kaza in the evening for a cultural program or relaxed dinner.
Note: Chandratal trip is seasonal (usually July–September) and involves rough terrain; this is a key feature of the Himachal Adventure package.
Return Journey to Shimla / Departure
After breakfast, begin the return journey toward Shimla (or a predetermined drop-off point such as Rampur/Shimla/Manali depending on your booking). Enjoy final mountain landscapes and stop for scenic viewpoints and meals en route. End of the Spiti Monastic Heritage 7 Nights package with hotel drop or onward transfer arrangements.
Important: This is a long drive day — plan onward travel accordingly. Thank your guide and driver for a safe trip through the high Himalayas.
