Climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress
Climb the ancient Sigiriya Rock Fortress (Lion Rock), a UNESCO World Heritage site built in the 5th century CE. The climb takes visitors through landscaped water gardens, terraced gardens, frescoes and a dramatic final ascent via metal stairways and the iconic lion’s paws to panoramic views from the summit containing palace ruins and massive rock reservoirs.

Pass through the Lion's Gate
Ascend the metal stairways between the lion's paws — a dramatic and narrow section. Expect queues during peak season.
Summit exploration
Explore palace foundations, cisterns and viewpoints. Allow time for photos and to rest while enjoying the views.
Descent and optional visit to the Sigiriya Museum
Descend carefully; visit the museum near the entrance for archaeological context and exhibits if time permits.
Safety Requirements
Moderate fitness required: steps and steep sections; not suitable for people with severe mobility issues
