Itinerary
Arrival, Transfer to Galle & Evening at Galle Fort
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport (Colombo). Meet and greet, then transfer south along the scenic coastal route to Galle (approximately 2.5–3 hours depending on traffic). Check in to your hotel and relax. In the late afternoon enjoy a guided walk through Galle Fort — explore the ramparts, Dutch Reformed Church, the Galle Lighthouse, and the quaint boutiques and cafes of Dutch Hospital. Sunset at the fort walls is a must-do family photo moment.
Note: Early arrivals can store luggage and head into town; hotels will do their best to accommodate early check-in.
Full Day Galle & Optional Mirissa Whale-Watching
Spend the day exploring Galle at a relaxed pace. Morning options include visiting a local spice garden or taking a short drive to a nearby tea plantation for a brief tea plantation tour and tasting. After lunch, choose between a relaxed afternoon in the fort area or an optional guided excursion to Mirissa (approx. 50–60 minutes) for seasonal whale watching.
Evening: return to Galle for a family-friendly dinner overlooking the fort or at a beachside restaurant in Unawatuna.
Important: Whale watching operates in season (November–April). This is an optional, extra-cost activity and can be added when booking.
Transfer to Bentota — Turtle Hatchery & River Safari
After a leisurely breakfast, check out and transfer to Bentota (approx. 1–1.5 hours). En route stop at the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery for an educational visit where children and adults can learn about sea turtle conservation and see hatchlings (entrance donation supports conservation).
Arrive in Bentota, check in to your beachfront hotel. In the afternoon enjoy a guided Bentota River Safari — cruise through mangroves, spot water birds, monitor lizards, and local riverside life. Evening at leisure on Bentota Beach.
Tip: The turtle hatchery visit is especially rewarding for families — bring sunscreen and a hat for the short walk.
Leisure Day in Bentota — Beaches & Water Activities
A full day dedicated to relaxation and optional activities. Choose from:
- Gentle water sports (banana boat, snorkeling, glass-bottom boat)
- Ayurvedic spa treatments and family-friendly hotel facilities
- Visit Brief Garden or nearby temples for a cultural touch
Families can relax on the sheltered Bentota Beach while kids enjoy safe shallow waters. Evening: seafood dinner or hotel family buffet.
Note: Water sports are optional and payable locally. Always follow the safety briefings provided by operators.
Morning Relaxation & Transfer to Colombo for Departure
Enjoy a relaxed morning — a final swim, beach walk, or souvenir shopping. Check out and transfer back to Colombo/airport depending on your flight schedule (approx. 1.5–2.5 hours). If time permits, stop for a short Colombo city orientation and shopping in Colombo before your onward journey.
Important: Allow at least 3–4 hours between hotel departure and international flight check-in time to accommodate traffic and security procedures.
