Arrival in Thekkady & Spice Village Walk
Arrive at Kochi/Trivandrum airport or Cochin railway station and transfer (approx. 3–4 hours) to Thekkady (Kumily). Check-in to your hotel/resort and relax. In the late afternoon enjoy a guided walk through a nearby spice plantation—learn about cardamom, pepper, cinnamon and clove cultivation with hands-on tasting. Evening at leisure.
Tip: Carry comfortable walking shoes and a light rain jacket during monsoon months.
Cardamom Plantation Tour & Village Market
Full day dedicated to the spice culture of Thekkady. Visit a working cardamom plantation and smallholder farms to see harvest and processing techniques. Participate in a spice tasting and a short workshop on traditional uses — a great complement to a spice plantation tour. After lunch, stroll through Kumily market to observe local life and shop for spices, homemade pickles and handicrafts. Optional evening cultural show at the resort featuring local dance or Kalaripayattu martial arts show demonstration.
Note: Market visits offer great photo opportunities — request permission before photographing vendors.
Periyar Boat Cruise & Nature Trek
Early morning transfer to Periyar Tiger Reserve / Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary for the iconic boat cruise on Periyar Lake — a serene way to spot elephants, sambar, gaur and a variety of birds along the lakeshore. After the cruise, enjoy a guided nature trek into the sanctuary's buffer zones with a naturalist, as part of the Periyar Tiger Reserve bamboo rafting and jungle walk experience, to learn about local flora and fauna.
Important: Boat seats and guided treks are subject to park timings and availability; booking in advance is recommended.
Jeep Safari & Elephant Interaction
Morning jeep safari into the Periyar National Park core or buffer areas (depending on permit availability) for a higher-chance wildlife sighting experience. In the afternoon visit an elephant rehabilitation/interaction centre (where available) to learn about elephant care and conservation. Evening free to relax at the resort and enjoy local Kerala cuisine.
Tip: Carry binoculars and a camera with a telephoto lens for wildlife photography.
Morning Nature Walk & Departure
Early morning guided nature/plantation walk around the property or a short visit to Chellarkovil Viewpoint for panoramic views of the valley. Return to the hotel for check-out and proceed to Kochi/Trivandrum for onward transfer or departure. End of services.
Note: If you prefer, extend the trip to Munnar or Alleppey for a combined 5+ night Kerala Adventure package.
