Weather Conditions
High-altitude, cool and changeable. Typical daytime temperatures range from 8–16°C (46–61°F); early mornings can be near or below 5°C with frequent mist and sudden showers. Dress in layers and expect wind.
Entry Fees & Permits
Park opening hours are typically early morning (around 6:00 AM) to late afternoon (around 6:00 PM) — exact times and entry windows can vary; many visitors aim to enter at or soon after opening for the best views. Entry fees and concession categories (foreign, SAARC, local) change periodically; check the official Department of Wildlife Conservation or local park office for current fees. Guided-walk and vehicle restrictions may apply.
Accessibility
Horton Plains is located in Nuwara Eliya District, reachable by road from Nuwara Eliya (approx. 30–40 km, 1–1.5 hours by car) or via Ohiya/Haputale. The nearest major international airport is Bandaranaike International Airport (Colombo); road travel to the park from Colombo takes several hours. Park trails are mostly well-marked but can be muddy and uneven.
