Arrival and Drive to Bomdila — Scenic Highland Entry
Arrive early at Tezpur / Guwahati (recommended: Tezpur for shorter drive) and begin the picturesque drive into the highlands of Arunachal. Cross the Brahmaputra plains and ascend through terraced hills, riverside valleys, and charming villages en route to Bomdila. Visit the Bomdila Monastery and viewpoint before checking into your hotel. Evening at leisure to explore the local market and enjoy clear mountain skies.
Tip: Start early to make the most of stops and acclimatize gradually.
Bomdila to Tawang via Sela Pass, Nuranang Falls & Jaswantgarh
A dramatic high-altitude day as you ascend to the iconic Sela Pass and pass by the azure Sela Lake (Madhuri Lake). Stop for panoramic photos at the pass. Continue to the stunning Nuranang (Jang) Falls and visit the Jaswantgarh War Memorial — a poignant tribute with expansive valley views. Arrive in Tawang by late afternoon. Evening: brief stroll or rest.
Important: Roads can be winding; travel time is long but scenically rewarding. Carry warm clothing and hydration.
Tawang Local Sightseeing — Monastery, Culture & Views
Full day dedicated to exploring Tawang. Visit the majestic Tawang Monastery (Ganden Namgyal Lhatse) — spend time in the prayer halls and soak up the spiritual ambiance. Explore the Tawang War Memorial for panoramic valley views and pay a visit to local markets for handloom shawls, Tibetan artifacts, and souvenirs. Optional short treks to nearby lookout points or visits to small local monasteries like Urgeling.
Tip: Respect local customs inside monasteries — photography may be restricted.
Return Journey to Plain — Departure
After breakfast, begin the return drive down from Tawang toward Tezpur / Guwahati. Retrace the spectacular mountain route, with optional stops at favorite photo points along Sela Pass or at scenic valleys. Arrive at your drop-off point by evening for onward travel.
