Travel time approx. 1.5–2 hours from Srinagar (depending on traffic & road conditions). Start early to avoid crowds.
Arrival & tea/snacks at local stall
Settle in, check viewpoints and ask local caretaker about safe walking routes.
Main viewpoint visit and short walk along the rim
Best photo angles are from the upper viewpoints; watch footing — edges and wet rocks can be slippery.
Optional riverside trek / picnic
Follow marked paths or hire a local guide for small treks down to calmer pools. Carry picnic supplies and keep the area clean.
Return, optional visit to nearby spots (Kokernag) & depart
If on a full-day plan, combine with Kokernag gardens or local orchards; otherwise head back to base.
Safety Requirements
Wear sturdy, non-slip footwear — rocks near the falls are slippery.
Stay behind railings and marked barriers; avoid getting too close to the edge.
Carry a basic first-aid kit; river currents are strong — swimming is not advised.
Check weather and local advisories; heavy rain increases flow and risk.
Carry valid ID (domestic or passport for foreign nationals) and be aware of local security guidance.
Tips
Carry cash — small shops and parking attendants may not accept cards.
Best light for photos: early morning or late afternoon; avoid harsh midday sun.
Bring a waterproof cover or dry bag for camera gear because of spray from the falls.
Hire a local guide if you plan to explore off-beaten trails — they know safe routes and history.
Respect local rules and natural environment — take trash back with you.
If visiting in winter, check road accessibility and be prepared for snow and icy conditions.
