Putrajaya Day Trip with Putra Mosque and Lake Cruise
Putrajaya is Malaysia's administrative capital, built on reclaimed land 25 km south of Kuala Lumpur, and it works well as a half-day or full-day add-on to a KL stay. The drive itself is scenic, crossing wide boulevards and eight signature bridges including Seri Wawasan with its sail-like cables.
The centrepiece is Masjid Putra, the rose-tinted mosque built from Chinese granite, where the pink dome and 116-metre minaret sit above Putrajaya Lake. Free robes are provided at the entrance for visitors, and non-Muslims can enter outside prayer times. Nearby stand Perdana Putra, the Prime Minister's office with its green Mughal-influenced dome, and the Putra Bridge.
Most tours combine sightseeing with a Cruise Tasik Putrajaya boat ride from Pangkalan Putrajaya jetty, either on a covered pontoon or a smaller electric boat, passing government buildings, the Millennium Monument and Seri Gemilang Bridge. Add Masjid Besi (the Iron Mosque) at Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin and the Botanical Gardens if time allows.
Indian travellers usually pair Putrajaya with a transit stop, since KLIA is only 20 minutes away, making it a practical last-day outing before an evening flight. Vegetarian and halal food is available at Alamanda Shopping Centre.
