Overview

Three nights that pair the city with a cool hill station, ideal for families travelling with children between 5 and 15. Kuala Lumpur delivers Batu Caves, Aquaria KLCC and the KLCC Park splash pad, while Genting Highlands at 1,800 metres brings temperatures down to 15-22°C, a welcome change from Malaysian humidity. The Awana SkyWay cable car ride to Genting is itself a highlight for kids, and Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park plus the outdoor rides keep everyone occupied regardless of the weather. The Chin Swee Caves Temple stop on the way up gives an easy sightseeing break. Distances are short: Genting is roughly 60 km from Kuala Lumpur, about an hour and a half by road. Carry light jackets for the hill night. The itinerary keeps early mornings to a minimum and leaves mall time in Bukit Bintang for shopping and dinner.

Itinerary

Day1

Arrival in Kuala Lumpur & Aquaria KLCC

Arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and transfer to your hotel in the Bukit Bintang area. Once settled, visit Aquaria KLCC inside the convention centre, where a 90-metre walk-through tunnel puts sand tiger sharks and rays directly overhead. Children enjoy the otter and seahorse displays and the daily feeding sessions. Walk across to KLCC Park in the evening for the Lake Symphony fountain show against the lit Petronas Twin Towers. Dinner at Suria KLCC food court, which has Indian, Chinese and Malay counters.

Day2

City Tour, Batu Caves & Free Evening

After breakfast, tour the city: Merdeka Square, the National Monument, the Royal Palace gates, the National Mosque and Central Market for handicraft shopping. Continue to Batu Caves with its towering Lord Murugan statue and 272 coloured steps to the limestone Temple Cave. The Ramayana Cave at the base is a good alternative for those avoiding the climb. Return to Kuala Lumpur for a free evening at Pavilion Mall or Petaling Street's night market, where families can bargain for souvenirs and sample street snacks.

Day3

Drive to Genting Highlands & Skytropolis

Check out and drive up to Genting Highlands, stopping at the Chin Swee Caves Temple built into the hillside for its pagoda and valley views. Board the Awana SkyWay cable car for the ride over rainforest canopy into Resorts World Genting. After hotel check-in, spend the afternoon at Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park with its spinning coaster and family rides, then explore the Genting Premium Outlets or the SkyAvenue mall. Evening temperatures drop to around 15-18°C, so keep jackets handy.

Day4

Genting to Airport & Departure

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast with mountain views and time for any last rides or the Genting strawberry farm and Ripley's-style attractions at SkyAvenue if your flight is late. Check out and drive down to Kuala Lumpur International Airport, roughly two hours away, for your onward flight. Your driver can include a short stop at a chocolate outlet or a Little India shop in Brickfields for spices and souvenirs, subject to flight timing.
