Sunway Lagoon Theme Park Day Out
Sunway Lagoon in Bandar Sunway, about 25 minutes from central Kuala Lumpur, is built inside a former tin mining quarry and is split into six parks under one ticket: Water Park, Amusement Park, Extreme Park, Wildlife Park, Scream Park and the Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon.
For Indian families this is usually the one full day of the KL leg that children pick themselves. The headline rides are Vuvuzela, one of the world's largest water funnel rides, the 360-degree Pirate Ship, the FlowRider surf simulator and a 428-metre canopy walk suspension bridge that crosses the whole lagoon. The Wildlife Park has flamingos, a walk-through aviary and a reptile section, useful for younger kids who tire of water slides.
The Water Park section has a 1.4-metre-deep wave pool and dedicated shallow zones, so non-swimmers are comfortable. Lockers, changing rooms and paid towel rental are available. Halal and vegetarian food is easy to find at the food courts, and there are Indian-run outlets in the adjoining Sunway Pyramid mall, which is connected by a covered bridge if you want dinner after.
Most Indian package itineraries slot Sunway Lagoon on the day after arrival in KL, when nobody wants a long drive.
