Itinerary
Arrival & Orientation — Port Blair
Arrive at Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair. Transfer to your hotel and attend an introductory marine research orientation in the late afternoon. The session covers the week's conservation goals, safety briefing, basic snorkel skills, and introduction to citizen-science survey methods. Evening free to relax. Optional visit to Corbyn's Cove Beach for a short walk or swim.
Important: Inter-island ferry timings will be confirmed on arrival; carry a printed ID for permits.
Heritage & Conservation Workshop — Port Blair
Morning visit to the historic Cellular Jail and the Light & Sound Show briefing (show in evening optional). After lunch, participate in a full-day Conservation Workshop led by marine scientists: coral ecology basics, reef threats, data recording protocols, and practice sessions with snorkel gear in a controlled setting.
Note: The hands-on workshop includes classroom and pool-based sessions to build confidence before open-water snorkels.
Transfer to Havelock & Evening Briefing
Early morning ferry transfer to Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep). Check-in at your eco-resort. Afternoon short field trip to Kalapathar Beach for a coastal survey and initial reef observation from shore. Evening briefing for next day's full snorkel and reef-monitoring activities. Free time to enjoy Radhanagar Beach sunset.
Tip: Ferry crossings depend on sea conditions; seats are reserved in advance.
Elephant Beach Snorkel & Reef Survey
Full-day boat trip to Elephant Beach for guided snorkeling and a structured reef survey. Activities include: safety briefing, buddy pair snorkels, species identification (fish, corals, invertebrates), substrate health scoring, and data logging for citizen-science databases. Light lunch on the beach; return to Havelock in late afternoon. Evening discussion of findings with expert feedback.
Important: Snorkeling level suited for beginners and intermediate participants. Waterproof cameras recommended for documentation.
Advanced Monitoring & Free Time — Havelock
Morning dedicated to advanced reef monitoring techniques: transect setup, photo-quadrat method, and coral bleaching assessment. Participants will compile their day's data into a shared report. Afternoon free for optional activities: scuba diving (additional cost), kayaking, or relaxing at Radhanagar Beach. Evening community presentation where participants present observations.
Note: Scuba dives must be booked in advance and are subject to certification and fee.
Transfer to Neil Island — Coral Walk & Beach Survey
Morning ferry to Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep). On arrival, conduct a guided coral reef walk (at low tide) and shore-based beach survey focused on microplastics and coastal biodiversity. Late afternoon visit to Bharatpur Beach for snorkeling (time permitting) or relaxed beach time. Farewell bonfire and reflection on conservation learnings.
Tip: Low-tide walks are best done with a guide — wear water shoes and avoid standing on corals.
Return to Port Blair & Departure
Early ferry back to Port Blair. Time-permitting, stop at Ross Island or local markets for souvenirs before transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
Note: Check-out times and ferry schedules will determine exact timing. Book evening flights only after confirming ferry departure.
