Itinerary
Arrival — Transfer to Uttarkashi
Arrive at Dehradun (Jolly Grant) airport / Haridwar / Rishikesh railway station and begin your scenic drive to Uttarkashi. En route enjoy the changing Himalayan foothills and river valleys. Check-in at your hotel, relax and take a short evening stroll along the Bhagirathi River. Attend temple aarti if time permits.
Travel time: approx. 6–8 hours by road depending on pickup point and traffic.
Uttarkashi Sightseeing & Local Exploration
Full day to explore Uttarkashi, an important pilgrimage town on the banks of the Bhagirathi. Visit the revered Kashi Vishwanath Temple, local temples and ghats. Optionally walk the town market and interact with local shopkeepers for spiritual souvenirs. In the afternoon, choose an optional half-day visit or short trek to nearby viewpoints or meadows such as Dayara Bugyal (seasonal, requires additional time).
Tip: Carry light warm clothing and comfortable walking shoes for uneven paths.
Scenic Drive — Harsil & Onward to Gangotri
After early breakfast, depart for the drive to Gangotri via Harsil, one of Uttarakhand's most picturesque valleys. Enjoy panoramic views of pine and deodar forests, terraced fields and apple orchards. Stop for photos at scenic points and visit the peaceful village of Harsil. Continue to Gangotri, check-in and attend the evening aarti at Gangotri Temple.
Important: Mountain roads can be narrow; expect frequent photo and refreshment stops.
Gangotri Darshan & Optional Short Walks
Early morning visit and puja at Gangotri Temple, the sacred shrine dedicated to Goddess Ganga. Spend time at the origin region of the Ganges where pilgrims offer prayers. For those interested, short walks to nearby vantage points are possible. Note: The trek to Gomukh (the glacier source of Bhagirathi) is approximately 18 km one-way from Gangotri and requires more time and prior planning; consider as an extension.
Return to Uttarkashi in the late afternoon/evening and relax at your hotel.
Uttarkashi to Rishikesh via Scenic Stops (Tehri/Scenic Drive)
Drive down from Uttarkashi towards the plains with scenic stops at viewing points and possibly at Tehri Lake area (time permitting) to witness the reservoir and surrounding hills. Continue to Rishikesh, the yoga capital and gateway to spiritual Ganga experiences. Evening at leisure; consider attending the Ganga Aarti in Rishikesh.
Travel time: approx. 6–7 hours depending on stops.
Rishikesh: Spiritual Experiences & Sightseeing
Explore Rishikesh — visit Laxman Jhula, Ram Jhula, local temples and riverside cafés. Enjoy a guided brief yoga/meditation session or join an ashram program (optional). In the evening, witness the soulful Ganga Aarti at Parmarth Niketan, a highlight of any Uttarakhand pilgrimage.
Tip: Rishikesh has many boutique cafés and shops; carry small cash for local purchases.
Departure from Rishikesh / Haridwar
After breakfast, check out and transfer to Dehradun airport or Haridwar/Rishikesh railway station for your onward journey. If time permits, a short visit to Haridwar for the famous evening aarti can be arranged prior to departure (subject to timing).
