Itinerary

Day1

Arrival at Shimla / Transfer to Sarahan — Gateway to Kinnaur

Arrive at Shimla (or a pre-arranged pick-up point) and drive east into the foothills toward Sarahan, the traditional gateway to Kinnaur. Enjoy lush pine forests and the first panoramic views of the higher ranges. On arrival, check into your hotel and visit the famous Bhimakali Temple, an important local pilgrimage and architectural landmark. Evening at leisure with a short walk through the village to observe local life and terraced fields.

Driving time: Approximately 4–6 hours from Shimla depending on road conditions.

Tips: Acclimatize gently — this is the start of high-altitude travel.

Day2

Sarahan to Sangla — Enter the Baspa Valley

After breakfast, drive deeper into Kinnaur to the picturesque Sangla (Baspa Valley). En route, enjoy striking views of the Sutlej and Baspa rivers, terraced fields, and traditional wooden Kinnauri houses. On arrival in Sangla, check into your lodge and take a riverside walk to soak in the valley's calm.

In the afternoon visit Rakcham or local viewpoints; optional short hikes to nearby orchards.

Highlights today: Baspa river, valley panoramas, village walk.

Important: Roads can be narrow; allow extra time for stops and photos.

Day3

Chitkul Excursion & Drive to Kalpa — Highest Inhabited Village on the Indian Side

Early start for a scenic excursion to Chitkul, the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibetan border. Enjoy the rustic charm, wooden homes, and close-up mountain views. Return and proceed toward Kalpa / Reckong Peo in the afternoon. Check in and relax.

Must-see: Local handicrafts, views of Kinnaur Kailash (clear-day panorama).

Note: Chitkul is rural — facilities are basic but atmospheric.

Day4

Explore Kalpa — Cultural Immersion & Kinnaur Views

Full day in Kalpa: visit local villages like Roghi and viewpoints that provide iconic vistas of the Kinnaur Kailash Range. Stroll through apple orchards, visit small monasteries, and learn about tribal Kinnauri culture, dress, and cuisine. Evening cultural talk with local hosts if available.

Optional: Short hikes on local trails to explore traditional village architecture.

Special note: Carry cash, as smaller shops may not accept cards.

Day5

Kalpa to Nako — High-Altitude Lake & Village Charm

Depart Kalpa and journey toward Nako, a tranquil high-altitude village famous for its serene lake and monastery. The drive features increasingly stark Himalayan landscapes and Tibetan-influenced architecture. On arrival, explore the Nako Monastic Complex, the small Nako Lake, and nearby hamlets.

Altitude alert: Nako sits higher than Kalpa — rest on arrival and hydrate well.

Highlights: Nako Lake, monastery murals, panoramic ridgelines.

Day6

Nako to Keylong via Kunzum Pass — Entering Lahaul

Early morning drive crossing the dramatic Kunzum Pass (4,551 m) into the Lahaul Valley. The route offers lunar-like landscapes, shepherd camps, and wide-open high-altitude basins. Descend to Keylong, the administrative town of Lahaul, with time to explore Shashur Monastery or local markets. Relax in a guesthouse in Keylong.

Important: Kunzum is a high pass — weather-dependent. Snow or closure may alter itinerary; alternatives include longer detours via Gramphu.

Tip: Layered clothing is essential for the pass crossing.

Day7

Keylong to Manali via Rohtang/Sissu — Alpine Valleys to Tourist Hub

From Keylong, drive through the scenic Lahaul stretch past Sissu Falls and across the Rohtang Pass (subject to seasonal opening) descending to Manali. Enjoy changing landscapes from stark high plateaus to lush pine forests. On arrival in Manali, check into your hotel; evening free for leisure or strolling the Mall Road.

Note: Rohtang Pass requires permits and often has queues; seasonal closures apply. If Rohtang is closed, the alternate route through Atal Tunnel (subject to inclusion) or extended drive may be used.

Highlights: Sissu Falls, Rohtang pass vistas, Manali town.

Travel time: 5–7 hours depending on conditions.

Day8

Departure from Manali — Tour Ends

After breakfast, the package ends with drop-off at the local bus stand, airport (Bhuntar), or pre-arranged drop location. Option to extend stay in Manali, explore nearby monasteries, or add a short pilgrimage extension to Hadimba Temple or Vashisht hot springs.

Check-out note: Confirm onward travel details and any luggage storage with your hotel.

Farewell tip: Purchase local woolens and Kinnauri handicrafts as souvenirs.
