Putrajaya, Malaysia
Putrajaya was built from the mid-1990s on former plantation land as Malaysia's federal administrative capital, taking over most government functions from Kuala Lumpur in 1999. It is a planned garden city of wide boulevards, man-made lakes and landmark bridges, designed as a showcase of contemporary Islamic architecture. The Putra Mosque, Putrajaya Convention Centre, Perdana Putra and the Iron Mosque are its best-known buildings. Because it sits between KLIA and Kuala Lumpur, most Indian tour packages include a half-day photo stop here.
