Itinerary
Arrival in Guwahati & Evening Sightseeing
Arrival at Guwahati (Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport). Meet and transfer to the hotel. After check-in and some rest, enjoy a half-day city sightseeing: visit the iconic Kamakhya Temple (view the temple complex from the outer precincts), a drive along the Brahmaputra riverfront, and a brief stop at the Assam State Museum (time permitting). Tip: Plan temple visit timings according to flight arrival; the main sanctum may have queues on festival days. Evening free to explore local markets or relax.
Drive to Kaziranga — Evening Orientation
After breakfast, drive to Kaziranga National Park (approx. 5–6 hours by road). En route, enjoy scenic Assam countryside and small-town stops. Check into the lodge/resort near the park. Evening orientation briefing about park rules, safari timings and safety. Important: Carry a copy of ID for park permits; dress in neutral colors for wildlife viewing. Leisure evening with optional village walk or resort activities.
Kaziranga — Elephant Safari & Cultural Program
Early morning elephant safari into the Central Range (subject to availability and health of elephants) for close-up wildlife viewing—best chance to see the Indian one-horned rhinoceros, swamp deer and various birds. Return to the hotel for breakfast and rest. Afternoon jeep safari in another range (Western/Eastern depending on permits) to cover more grasslands and wetlands. Evening cultural program option featuring Assamese folk music and dance at the resort. Note: Elephant safaris are limited and book fast; family groups should reserve in advance.
Morning Jeep Safari & Transfer to Majuli (via Jorhat)
Option for an early morning jeep safari for a different range (if not done earlier) or leisure morning at the resort. After lunch, depart for Jorhat and proceed to Nimatighat for the ferry to Majuli Island (river crossing time varies with water levels). Check-in to a traditional guesthouse or eco-resort on Majuli. Evening walking tour of the nearby village or an introductory visit to a local Satra (Vaishnavite monastery). Note: River crossing depends on seasonal schedules; during monsoon/low-water months timings can change.
Explore Majuli — Satras, Crafts & Village Life
Full-day exploration of Majuli — visit prominent Satras (e.g., Auniati, Dakhinpat), interact with artisans practicing mask-making, pottery and handloom weaving. Discover tribal and Assamese village lifestyles, scenic riverbanks and wetlands. Enjoy a traditional lunch prepared with local ingredients. Evening free for sunset views over the Brahmaputra and informal cultural exchanges with hosts. Family-friendly: gentle walks, short boat rides and hands-on craft demonstrations.
Return to Guwahati — Departure
After breakfast, check out and take the ferry back to Nimatighat, then drive to Guwahati (via Jorhat). En route stop for refreshments and short sightseeing depending on flight time. Transfer to Guwahati Airport / Railway Station for onward journey. Tip: Build extra buffer time for river-to-road transfers and traffic when booking domestic flights.
