Conclude with an orientation on pilgrimage etiquette and an evening cultural briefing with your guide. Easy day to acclimatize.
North Coast: SSR Botanical Garden, Château de Labourdonnais & Triolet Shivala
Transfer north to the famed SSR Botanical Garden (Pamplemousses) to admire giant water lilies and historic spice trees. Visit the colonial Château de Labourdonnais (estate & rum/fruit orchard), then proceed to Triolet to pay respects at Triolet Shivala / Maheswarnath Temple Complex, an important Tamil pilgrimage site. Evening free in Grand Baie—enjoy coastal shops and a seaside promenade. Wear modest clothing for temple visits.
Grand Bassin (Ganga Talao) Pilgrimage & Heritage Sites
Early departure for a full pilgrimage day at Ganga Talao (Grand Bassin) — the island's most sacred Hindu lake with multiple temples and towering deities. Participate in prayers, view the Shiva and other temple complexes, and learn about local rituals from the guide. On return, visit colonial heritage site Eureka House (optional) or nearby heritage attractions depending on time. Evening at leisure in Grand Baie. Photography rules may apply at some shrines—please follow guide instructions.
Curepipe & Central Plateau: Trou aux Cerfs, Tea Factory & Cultural Trail
Check out and travel to Curepipe in the central plateau. Visit the volcanic crater Trou aux Cerfs for a short nature walk and panoramic views. Continue to Bois Chéri Tea Estate & Tea Museum for a guided tour and tasting (insight into Mauritian plantation history and cultural influence). Explore Curepipe town, colonial streets, and local markets. Overnight in Curepipe — a relaxed evening with a heritage-themed dinner option.
Mahébourg: Aapravasi Ghat, Museum & Blue Bay Marine Heritage
Drive southeast to historic Mahébourg. Visit the National History Museum (Mahébourg) and then the globally significant Aapravasi Ghat (UNESCO) — the 19th-century immigration depot that shaped modern Mauritian society. Afternoon at Blue Bay Marine Park: optional glass-bottom boat or snorkeling to view coral and learn about traditional coastal livelihoods. Finish with sunset drive to Le Morne viewpoint (Le Morne Cultural Landscape UNESCO) for a reflective evening. Blue Bay boat trips are weather dependent and optional.
Departure: Last-Minute Sightseeing & Transfer to Airport
