Itinerary
Arrival in Guwahati — Welcome to the Northeast
Arrive at Guwahati Airport/Railway Station. Meet and greet by your representative and transfer to the hotel. Depending on arrival time, visit the Kamakhya Temple (one of the holiest Shakti peeths) and take a relaxing evening Brahmaputra river viewpoint visit or an optional short river cruise.
Evening: Overnight stay in Guwahati. Tip: Carry light woolens for the evening by the river.
Guwahati to Kaziranga — Enter the Realm of Rhinos
Drive to Kaziranga National Park (approx. 4-5 hours). Check into the resort and enjoy lunch. In the late afternoon, opt for a local village walk or leisure time at the resort. Brief orientation about safari timings and wildlife etiquette.
Evening: Rest at the resort. Note: Safari slots are allotted early morning or late afternoon; timings vary by season.
Kaziranga — Elephant Safari & Jeep Safari
Early morning elephant safari (subject to availability) to get a close view of the eastern one-horned rhinoceros — a highlight for families. Return to the resort for breakfast and rest. Post-lunch, enjoy a jeep safari across the park's varied zones, maximize wildlife sightings (wild boar, deer, water buffalo, many bird species) and capture the sunset landscape.
Evening: Traditional Assamese cultural performance at the resort (if available). Tip: Carry binoculars and a sunhat for safaris.
Transfer to Shillong — Umiam Lake & Shillong City Walk
Drive to Shillong via Guwahati (approx. 4-5 hours). En route, stop by Umiam Lake for scenic photos and a short lakeside stroll. Arrive Shillong and check into the hotel. Later, explore Ward's Lake, Police Bazar (shopping & local snacks) and visit Shillong Peak for panoramic views.
Evening: Leisure time in Shillong. Note: Shillong's markets are lively in the evening — great for souvenirs and local delicacies.
Day Excursion to Cherrapunji — Waterfalls & Living Roots
Day trip to Cherrapunji (Sohra) — one of the wettest places on earth. Visit the Nohkalikai Falls, Mawsmai Cave, and the famed Living Root Bridges (short, easy treks suitable for families). Explore viewpoints and take in the misty landscapes. Return to Shillong in the evening.
Evening: Overnight in Shillong. Important: Carry rainproof jackets and comfortable trekking shoes for short walks.
Departure — Transfer to Guwahati & Journey Home
After breakfast, drive back to Guwahati (approx. 3-4 hours) for your onward flight/train. If time permits, quick stop at Hajo (ancient pilgrimage site) or a last-minute local market visit in Guwahati.
