Itinerary
Arrival, Guwahati Orientation & Evening by the Brahmaputra
Arrive at Guwahati Airport/Railway Station. Meet and transfer to your hotel. After check-in, enjoy a relaxed orientation drive visiting Kamakhya Temple (time permitting) and the Assam State Museum. In the evening, take a short stroll along the Brahmaputra River or opt for a sunset river cruise (seasonal).
Tip: Flights to Guwahati arrive throughout the day; if you have an afternoon arrival, plan lighter activities to acclimatize.
Transfer to Shillong — Umiam Lake & Local Sights
After breakfast, drive to Shillong (approx. 3 hours). En route, stop at Umiam Lake for photos and short breaks. On arrival, check in and explore Shillong Peak and Elephant Falls. Spend the evening at Police Bazaar exploring local handicrafts and cafés.
Family-friendly walks and easy sightseeing to adjust to hill weather.
Cherrapunji (Sohra): Waterfalls & Limestone Caves
Drive to Cherrapunji (Sohra) — one of the wettest places on Earth. Visit the dramatic Nohkalikai Falls, Seven Sisters Falls viewpoint and explore Mawsmai Cave and Mawmluh Cave (subject to accessibility). Enjoy panoramic viewpoints such as Dainthlen Falls and Eco Park.
Note: Cave interiors can be damp and slippery; wear sturdy footwear and carry a flashlight.
Mawlynnong & Dawki: Clean Village, Living Roots & Crystal River
Head to Mawlynnong — renowned as the 'Cleanest Village in Asia'. Walk the village lanes, visit the Sky View Tower and interact with local Khasi families. Later, proceed to Dawki (Umngot River) for a transparent-water boat ride to the Bangladesh border point, admiring riverbed clarity and limestone banks.
Tip: Boat rides depend on river level — best from October to May. Carry light rainwear in monsoon months.
Drive to Kaziranga via Guwahati — Evening at Leisure
After an early breakfast, drive towards Kaziranga National Park. En route you may pass through Guwahati for lunch and a short break. Arrive at Kaziranga by evening, check into your lodge/resort and relax. Enjoy a traditional Assamese dinner and a cultural performance if available.
Travel note: Long driving day — recommended to start early and carry snacks and water for children.
Kaziranga Safari & Tea Estate Visit
Start with an early morning jeep or jeep/elephant safari (as per park zone and season) into Kaziranga National Park to spot the Indian one-horned rhinoceros, wild elephants, swamp deer and diverse birdlife. Return to the resort for breakfast and rest. Later in the day, drive to a nearby Assam tea estate (near Jorhat/Mariani area) for a guided walk through plantations, a tea-processing demonstration and tasting.
Important: Safari seats are limited — pre-booking is essential. Carry binoculars and sun protection.
Departure via Guwahati — End of Tour
After breakfast, check out and drive back to Guwahati for your onward flight or train. If time permits, visit Hajo (a confluence of Hindu, Buddhist and Islamic traditions) or local markets for last-minute shopping. Transfer to airport/railway station and depart with memorable experiences from your North-East Family Retreat tour package.
Tip: Schedule flights in the afternoon/evening to avoid a rushed transfer; allow buffer time for traffic and road conditions.

North-East Package Priced Better Than My Spreadsheet
I had spent two weeks trying to plan this North-East trip myself — comparing hotels, checking cab rates, reading forums — and I was still confused. A friend suggested TourGrids and honestly it was the better decision. Spoke to the coordinator over WhatsApp and one long call, explained what my husband and I wanted, and the package came back with hotels, cabs, meals, and flights all included. The price was actually lower than what I had calculated booking everything separately. Hotels were proper good, no downgrade surprises on arrival. Meals were included at most stops which saved a lot on the go. No hidden charges at checkout either — what was quoted is what we paid.
Cab Cancelled in Meghalaya, Back on Track Fast
Our cab didn't show up on day three in Meghalaya — my husband and I were just standing outside the hotel with our bags, not knowing what to do. I messaged the coordinator on WhatsApp and within 20 minutes he had another cab arranged. No drama, no extra charge, just sorted. That one moment told me everything about how TourGrids actually works. The rest of the North-East trip was honestly beautiful — the hotels were proper good, the itinerary had enough breathing room, and nothing felt rushed. Before booking I had a long call with the team, and they genuinely listened to what we wanted. No hidden charges either, which I always worry about.
North-East Properties Felt Carefully, Thoughtfully Chosen
We were a couple traveling North-East for the first time and honestly had no idea where to even start with hotels in that region. TourGrids sorted the entire stay — every property was clean, well-located, and genuinely comfortable. In Meghalaya especially, the resort they booked had views I wasn't expecting at that price point. The cab arrangements were equally solid — drivers showed up on time, vehicles were decent, and transfers between states never felt chaotic. Our coordinator shared all details on WhatsApp well in advance so nothing felt last-minute. No surprise charges at checkout either. For a region with tricky logistics, everything moved without us having to chase anyone.
North-East Cabs and Rooms Both Delivered
We did a 9-day North-East trip — me and my wife — covering Meghalaya, Assam, and Sikkim. What stood out was the quality of properties TourGrids picked. Not just decent stays, genuinely good ones — clean rooms, good locations, breakfast included without us asking twice. The cab arrangements were equally solid. Every transfer was on time, drivers knew the routes well, and there was never that anxious wait wondering if the vehicle would show up. Our coordinator Priya sorted everything over WhatsApp before we left Delhi — no last-minute surprises, no hidden charges. After past trips where hotel quality was always a gamble, it felt good to just trust the process and enjoy the place.
Flight Got Cancelled, TourGrids Didn't Skip a Beat
We were already in Guwahati when IndiGo cancelled our onward flight to Dibrugarh — no warning, just a message at 7 AM. I panicked, my husband panicked, but honestly our TourGrids coordinator Ritu was calmer than both of us combined. She called within minutes, checked availability on two alternate routes, and had us rebooked on a different carrier before we'd even finished breakfast. The hotel in Jorhat was also adjusted without any drama. Rest of the North-East trip went exactly as planned — cabs on time, hotels proper good, no hidden charges at checkout. Planning had been easy over WhatsApp, but that one morning showed us what they're actually made of.
North-East Hotels Felt Chosen With Real Care
We were a couple doing North-East for the first time and honestly had no idea what to expect from the hotels in those areas. TourGrids surprised us completely — every property was clean, well-located, and in a couple of places genuinely beautiful. Nothing felt like a random filler booking. The cab transfers were equally solid. Drivers were on time, vehicles were comfortable for the mountain roads, and there was never that anxious moment of waiting and wondering. Our coordinator kept us updated before we even had to ask. Everything was sorted over WhatsApp before we left Delhi — no surprises on ground, no extra charges popping up. Honestly, the stay quality alone made the whole trip feel premium.
