Itinerary
Arrival and Transfer to Silent Valley Region
Arrive at Kozhikode (Calicut) Airport / Railway Station and meet your eco-guide. Enjoy a scenic drive through the Palakkad Gap into the heart of the Western Ghats to Mannarkkad — the gateway to Silent Valley National Park. Check in to an eco-lodge or forest guesthouse. In the late afternoon, take a short guided nature walk to stretch your legs and spot endemic birds and butterflies.
Accommodation: Eco-lodge near Silent Valley.
Tip: Keep cameras and binoculars ready for early sightings; mobile reception is limited in the forest area.
Silent Valley National Park: Full-day Guided Trek
Full-day guided trek inside Silent Valley National Park — one of India's most pristine evergreen rainforests and part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Trail highlights include trekking along the Kunthipuzha River, dense canopy corridors, ancient tree species, endemic fauna, and quiet viewpoints. Your trained forest guide will explain the park's ecology and conservation significance.
Important: Permits and forest entry fees are included. The trek is moderate to challenging with uneven trails — wear sturdy trekking shoes and bring rain protection.
Transfer to Wayanad — Evening Village & Plantation Walk
After breakfast depart for Wayanad (Vythiri / Kalpetta area), a lush highland region on the Nilgiri fringes. En route, enjoy panoramic views across the Ghats and stop at scenic viewpoints. Arrive at your eco-resort in Wayanad and relax. In the late afternoon take a guided village walk to visit local tribal settlements and a spice/tea plantation to learn about sustainable farming practices.
Tip: Carry a small gift or essential supplies when visiting tribal hamlets — always seek permission before photographing people.
Chembra Peak Trek & Banasura Sagar Dam Excursion
Early-morning trek to Chembra Peak — the iconic Wayanad summit known for its heart-shaped lake (Hridaya Saras). This moderate-to-strenuous trek rewards you with sweeping Nilgiri views. After descending, relax with a visit to Banasura Sagar Dam — South India's largest earthen dam — and enjoy optional coracle/boat rides.
Note: Chembra Peak trek often requires a local permit and guide; lakeside area can be marshy — lightweight waterproofs recommended.
Muthanga Wildlife Safari & Edakkal Caves Sunset Trek
Pre-dawn jeep safari into Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary for wildlife viewing — elephant herds, gaurs, deer, and many bird species. Return to your lodge for breakfast, then head to the Edakkal Caves for a late afternoon trek. Climb the rocky trail to view prehistoric petroglyphs and enjoy a panoramic sunset over the Western Ghats.
Important: Safari timings are seasonal — early booking recommended. Carry ID for sanctuary permits.
Departure via Kozhikode — Transfer & Farewell
After breakfast, check out and drive back to Kozhikode for onward travel. En route you can stop for a final photo stop or a quick local market visit for souvenirs (tea, spices, handmade crafts). Arrive at Kozhikode Airport / Railway Station in time for your departure.
Tip: Allow buffer time for the drive back to Kozhikode due to hill-road traffic and occasional wildlife crossings.

They Sorted a Hotel Crisis Mid-Trip
We were two days into our Kerala trip with my husband when the houseboat booking got cancelled last minute — something to do with the operator. I panicked and called our TourGrids coordinator Ravi around 9 PM. He picked up immediately, found us an alternate houseboat in Alleppey, and had the confirmation in my WhatsApp within the hour. Same price, no extra charges, honestly a better boat than the original. The rest of the trip — Munnar, Kovalam, the whole itinerary — went completely smooth. Hotels were proper good, cabs were always on time. What I appreciated most is that someone actually answered when it mattered.
