Itinerary
Arrival, Thol Lake Wetland Walk & Heritage Stroll
Arrive at Ahmedabad Airport/Railway Station. Meet your driver and transfer to the hotel to freshen up. After breakfast or depending on arrival time, visit Thol Lake for an introductory wetland walk and bird hide session — prime for resident and winter migrants such as ducks, waders, and kingfishers. Return to Ahmedabad for an evening guided heritage stroll through Old Ahmedabad (Pols & Manek Chowk) to experience the city’s living heritage and street food (optional). Overnight in Ahmedabad.
Transfer to Nal Sarovar: Village Walks & Sunset Boat
Early departure for Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary. Check in to a lakeside resort/guesthouse. After lunch, enjoy a guided village walk on the island fringes to learn about local wetland livelihoods and bird-friendly farming practices. In late afternoon, take a classic wooden boat ride across Nal Sarovar for spectacular sunset birding — the best time to see pelicans, flamingos (seasonal), egrets, and cormorants. Return to the resort for dinner. Carry a light jacket for the evening breeze.
Full-Day Birding at Nal Sarovar
Full-day guided birding with an experienced local naturalist. Start with a pre-dawn boat ride to reach deeper lake areas and bird blinds; focus on waterfowl identification, migration patterns and photography tips. Midday rest at the resort, then afternoon exploration of peripheral wetlands and reed-beds. Evening community interaction or optional night-sky viewing. This day is tailored for families and photographers — pace can be adjusted.
Velavadar Grasslands: Blackbuck Safari & Wetland Walks
After an early breakfast, depart Nal Sarovar and drive to Velavadar National Park (grassland habitat). Arrive in time for a guided safari/walk to spot blackbuck, bustards, larks and migratory shorebirds in adjoining wetlands. Learn about grassland conservation and local pastoral life. Evening transfer to a comfortable lodge in the Bhavnagar/Velavadar area for dinner. Wear neutral clothing for best wildlife viewing.
Grassland Birding & Return to Ahmedabad
Morning grassland walk or vehicle safari in Velavadar for last-minute birding and photography. After lunch, drive back to Ahmedabad. On arrival, enjoy free time for shopping (textiles & handicrafts) or visit the famous Sabarmati Ashram (time permitting). Farewell dinner in Ahmedabad. Overnight in Ahmedabad.
Departure: Last-Minute Birding & Transfer to Airport
