Itinerary

Day1

Arrival and Transfer to Gangtok — Settle In & Local Walk

Arrive at Bagdogra (IXB) / New Jalpaiguri (NJP) or Guwahati (depending on your chosen pick-up). Meet & greet, then drive to Gangtok (approx. 4–6 hours from Bagdogra; longer from Guwahati). Check in at the hotel and rest.

Evening: Leisurely stroll along MG Marg, visit local markets and try local cuisine.

Tip: Keep warm layers handy — temperature can drop significantly after sunset.

Day2

Gangtok to Zuluk — Old Silk Route & Nathang Valley

Early breakfast and depart toward the iconic Zuluk via the historic Old Silk Route. The drive is scenic with many photo stops — Namchi viewpoint, Rangpo, and the dramatic Zuluk loops.

Arrive at Zuluk / Nathang Valley in the afternoon. Walk the meadowlands, enjoy panoramic views across the eastern Himalayan ridgeline, and capture sunset over the winding mountain loops.

Important: Roads are high-altitude and remote; carry basic snacks and water. Check Northeast India Internet & Mobile Coverage: Complete Guide 2024 before heading into these remote stretches.

Day3

Sunrise at Zuluk & Return to Gangtok — Rumtek and Tashi Viewpoint

Witness a spectacular sunrise over the Zuluk loops and the eastern Himalayan range — a photographer's dream. After breakfast, drive back to Gangtok.

En route/after arrival, visit Rumtek Monastery, Tashi Viewpoint, and shop for handicrafts.

Tip: Sunrise at Zuluk is best experienced early; plan for a pre-dawn start.

Day4

Gangtok to Bomdila/Dirang — Entering Arunachal Highlands

Depart early for the long scenic drive toward Bomdila / Dirang (gateway towns en route to Tawang). Cross lower Himalayan foothills and enter the scenic valleys of Arunachal.

Visit local viewpoints and small monasteries along the way. Evening check-in at hotel and short walk to explore local markets.

Note: Vehicle travel times vary with mountain traffic and weather — this day is predominantly a drive day. Brush up on Northeast India Cultural Etiquette: Your Complete Travel Guide before visiting local communities.

Day5

Bomdila / Dirang to Tawang via Sela Pass — Lakes & War Memorial

An epic day crossing the Sela Pass (high-altitude pass) en route to Tawang. Stop at Sela Lake / Sela Pass viewpoints and the emerald Sangestar Tso (Madhuri Lake). Visit Jaswant Garh (historic memorial) on the way.

Arrive in Tawang in the late afternoon. Evening visit to the famous Tawang Monastery for sunset views and peaceful ambience.

Important: Sela Pass can be cold and windy — pack thermal wear and windproof layers. Plan your trip timing with the help of the Best Time to Visit Northeast India: Complete Seasonal Guide 2026.
